Are you ready? The responsibility of being a mother...

Last night we had a few friends over for dinner and one of the couples brought us a baby gift. It is a book titled 100 Promised to My Baby by Mallika Chopra (Deepak Chopra's wife).

This book includes literally 100 promised with stories attached to each. Some of my favorites so far:

#54: I promise to teach you how to create your own reality
#72: I promise to teach you that every person serves a unique and valuable purpose.
#74: I promise to teach you to fight passionately for the truth.
#21: I promise to celebrate each milestone in your life

As I am typing this I can't help but cry at the thought of the amazing gift and responsibility I bear as a mother. I think about the lessons I have taught my son and where I missed opportunities. I feel a great deal of responsibility to be better, more loving and more thoughtful. I think about the times that I should take more time or re-thought my anger.

I am sharing thing because I wonder if you other mamas/soon to be mamas are with me in these feelings? Are you afraid? Do you feel ready?

I don't feel ready... I know that I will probably calm down a bit when the baby comes, but right now? Hubby isn't here, we won't see him till June (possibly July, but hopefully June) and I am just feeling SO unprepared to do this on my own!!!

No, I don't really feel ready. I do feel a little intimidated by the prospect whenever I think about it. I really wish that I had been writing down all the thoughts/ideas on parenting that I've had in the last few years, because now that I'm faced with it, they all seem to have flown out the window.
That sounds like a really great book. I think I'm going to try to find it!
