First well-baby appointment, I dislike the ped...

Victoria had her 2 week well-baby check today, even though she will be 3 weeks tomorrow...

She's gained just over a pound since birth. (She was 6 lbs 9 oz at birth, is 7 lbs 12 oz today), and has grown half an inch.

Ped asked me what kind of formula she's on - "Breastmilk". How many ounces per feeding? "I don't have tick marks on my boobs, but she typically nurses for at least 30 minutes every two hours, and generally takes both breasts at every feed." How many poopy diapers? "She poops basically every time she nurses." Here's the main kicker that makes me dislike this ped - "Breastfed babies poop more than normal so she should be pooping about 5 times a day."

Um, NO, breastfed babies poop the normal amount, formula fed babies don't poop enough!!!

Regarding Victoria's health, it was a positive visit - she's gaining well, jaundice has cleared up, no trace of the heart murmur she had at birth. But, yeah, I don't think I'll be getting along with this pediatrician!

I feel you. I had a very similar conversation with the nurse at the ped.'s office when we took Katie in.

When she asked how many oz. per feeding after being told we were bf-ing I replied that I had no idea then looked at Katie and said, "Mama doesn't have oz. markers does she?" It was a bit passive aggressive and not my proudest moment, but I'm blaming pp hormones.

The diaper discussion with the ped included the words pee-pee and poo-poo coming out of his mouth. That was weird to me. The man is an adult and a dr. I'm an intelligent adult. Do we really have to use pee-pee and poo-poo?

What killed it for me was the conversation about vax with the dr. I was feeling him out about delayed vax. One of my concerns is how many vaxes kids get at once. I want to spread them out. He claimed they usually only get 2 or 3. 2 shots and maybe one by mouth.

If he doesn't know that each of those shots and drops is more than 1 vax then I don't want him as my ped. If he thinks I'm to stupid to know that or that he can just lie to me to get me to vax as normal then I don't want him to be our ped.

Anyway sorry to hijack your thread. We're looking for a new ped too.

The questions about how much the babes get at each feeding are so ridiculous they made me laugh! But I understand that they'd be annoying too...

Good luck finding a better match or educating these docs if you decide/need to stay with them. I'm feeling lucky to have our family doc, who is very supportive and gentle.

gotta love peds..Apparently i over feed since Cale has gained 3 lbs since birth ( he is four weeks today) How exactley do you over feed a breast feed baby?

Hey, mine has gained 3lb too! Luckily my ped (who's actually family practice) thinks that's awesome. And...it is. Congrats on doing your baby's achievement!
