Looking for Pattern for NB Baby Beany Hat

Hey Galls,

I have been scouring the internet for a while looking for a cute non-roll brim newborn baby hat pattern. Something with a bit of flare (like a cable or eyelets) would be nice verses the standard ribbed hat (I found a ton of those).

Something with the head circumference at 14in, also I want to knit it up in cotton yarn so if the pattern calls for cotton that would be WONDERFUL! This will be the first hat my new little one will wear in when she is born in late July/early Aug.

Suggestions would be GREAT! MANY THANKS!
Andrea

I didn't go through those links but I adore the pinwheel baby hat. Google finds it easily.

LOVE LOVE This one, but need help!

Chevronhat
This one is the one I love the best but it does not give a finished size. I want the hat to be around 13.5-14in around so that it fits my BRAND new babe. Can anyone tell by the instructions what size it will end up? Should I knit the first few rows and then measure, will that be accurate?

THANKS!

If I did my math correctly, according to the gauge she gave, it should be about thirteen inches.

120 sts cast on/ 18 sts in gauge = 6.6 repeats of 18 stitches

18 sts to 2 inches, so 6.6 * 2= 13.3 inches.

you could also just make the hat top down, the lace pattern would just be upside down.

I am new to adapting patterns(I either make up my own as I go or just follow them straight) so bear with me a min....

I always thought that the gauge was given in stocking stitch unless specified. So when doing the math above using the gauge (which I assume was given in stockenet) how do you know that sizing is the same in pattern?

BUT I love Love the idea of knitting it from the top down!! Also if I reverse the entire pattern including the lace portion then it should come out looking correct, right?

Subbing to keep track of that list of hats!

Thanks! I added a couple to my Rav queue!

I've always liked the look of the cable baby hat.

feminist~mama - this is why my ravelry queue is a little out of countrol!

Baker - I assume that the gauge given is in the pattern specified - but who knows . You might try contacting the author to see.

However, knitting top down eliminates all that mess for sure!

I have my own hat "formula" I've used since 2002. It is not a pattern, because I do something different on every hat if I want to (add an eyelet row, do a little seed stitch, whatever I feel like at the time!)

I use sz 8 needles (my fave size), 16" - c/o 60 stitches, knit (throwing in whatever pattern variations I feel like) for 4.5 inches then start decreases (k2tog every 5, k round, k2tog every 4, etc) -switching to DPNs when necessary- until I have under 10 stitches and close it up/weave in ends.

I've done TONS of baby hats using this basic formula, mostly I have used just Sugar and Cream though Mainline (Knitpicks) is a new favorite - I did find that with the bernat organic cotton the hats come out bigger & a am going to experiment with casting on less stitches next time I use it for a smaller hat. If you are on ravelry you can look me up (knitalicious) and find pictures in my projects section.
