ineffective if "assymetrical"?

Just a thought, but I was wondering how common it is to have contractions that cause the stomach to harden more on one side than the other.
Just about my whole pregnancy the contractions I've had have been MUCH tighter on the right side. My whole stomach looks deformed when it happens, it gets all lopsided!
Does that mean my uterus isn't working effectively? COuld that be a reason I've been having SO MANY with no changes?
I've never really thought about it this way til now, I guess cause I'm past due now.
Just wondering....

My stomach is asymmetrical most of the time, and it's more pronounced when a BH is clamping down on it... but it's because of the position baby's in. Are you sure that you're really only getting rigid on one side, and not just that your little one has his/her butt sticking out on one side? ;-)

I was having my belly palpated just last week and it was contracting (Braxton Hicks) and was looking totally lop-sided; big on the right side.

My three midwives were there, and one pointed out that uteri are typically more on the right side--because the colon is on the left side.

So what you're talking about is probably VERY normal!

I agree that it's normal. I also thought that was a pretty good sign it was a BH and not a "real" contraction. Mine have been all on top this whole pregnancy but last week I had about an hour and a half of good all over contractions, dh checked for me and I am starting to open. But, they are all doing something, it just might not be something noticeable kwim.

I'm pretty darn positive that it's not a butt cause I feel all my kicks in this area and his back is usually on the other side based on where we're able to hear his HB during checkups and where I feel other movements and hiccups. He doesn't really flip flop too much anymore.
And, when I get a really big contraction, it feels like his little feet/foot is getting tangled up in my ribcage.
I guess that makes sense that the colon is on the left and so the uterus would be displaced...
What could they possibly be doing if they're not causing any noticeable changes?
I get them ALL the time!!!
Last night they were coming every 20 minutes for about 3 hours, but they never changed intensity or frequency even after trying to relieve them with drinking and changing position and activity. I was finally able to fall asleep but woke up having them this morning, in more irregular frequency.
This happens CONSTANTLY and has been for months now.
I'm so FRUSTRATED! Just gimme the real deal already and lets get this over with!!! :
