7+ eggs a week linked to death

Thread Starter
Middle-aged men who ate seven or more eggs a week had a higher risk of earlier death, U.S. researchers reported on Wednesday.

Men with diabetes who ate any eggs at all raised their risk of death during a 20-year period studied, according to the study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24028358/

Here's the last paragraph of the article:

Men who ate the most eggs also were older, fatter, ate more vegetables but less breakfast cereal, and were more likely to drink alcohol, smoke and less likely to exercise — all factors that can affect the risk of heart attack and death.

Okay - so really this article should have the title "Old fat men who drink, smoke and don't exercise are likely to die of heart attack despite eating vegetables". Am I right??

eating less breakfast cereal is linked to heart attack and death? give me a break!

I saw this headline too. So basically from all the variables your quote it sounds like a useless study. Go figure.

Frak Im going to be dead!! im eating at least 14 eggs a week!

Where the eggs in an Egg McMuffin? or BK Baco-Deluxe EggWrap? or from their neighbor's pastured chickens?

Ack - high egg consumption causes smoking!

LOL! Yeah, no conclusions can be drawn from that study because they failed to control for confounding factors. The title probably should have been, "Smoking, obesity and alcohol consumption linked to higher rates of death."

er... correlation is not causation

I eat at least 21 a week. I should be dead!

Wait a minute- the older men had a higher risk of death? So the egg-eating group made it to an older age before dying? Sounds like the eggs had a protective effect after all!

Ugh, has anyone written back?
Well, good thing I'm not a middle aged man with diabetes. I eat like 35+ eggs a week.

I totally read that as older men who drink, smoke, and are fatter who just happen to eat more than 7 eggs a week die more.

Hmmm, wonder if those other variables had anything to do with it?

Could this possibly be written backwards (not by you, but in the article)? This makes no sense at all.

Absolutely! Why is this getting any press at all??? They don't seem to have come to any real conclusions at all.

Also, 97% of Americans who die before age 21 eat eggs.

Obviously they are the root of all evil.

This sounds like one of the causes of death is being born. Another just happens to be getting old.

Oh, and if you happen to smoke, drink alcohol, eat veggies, or eat eggs, you will also die.

True headline:

"Older, obese, alcoholic smokers like fried eggs with their sausage, gravy and biscuit breakfasts"

I think the REAL problem here is dihydrogen monoxide consumption.

This is so funny. We need to forward this thread to the author.

Well, seeing as how we're ALL gonna die someday, better to die egged up and happy

What a waste of taxpayer dollars. Useless studies...
