Congratulations! If you have the time, I would love to hear about the path you took to get there. I am just starting out so I have a long way to go. I am actually taking the course from Healthy Childrens Center for Breastfeeding next week, so I will get the Lactation Counselor certificate for that. But it will be years before I have enough BC hours to sit for the board exams. I am going to be a LLL leader soon so that will give me 500 hours a year. My hope is to find a way to get all the hours in during the next 3 years so that I can use my Center for Breastfeeding class for my education hours.
Anyway, there are so many ways to go about this, so I would love to hear from you if you get a chance.
Thanks and congrats!!

Its been quite a journey as I am sure that you can imagine. My center here does most of the training but I have had 5 kids and been involved in breastfeeding all of them and attending meetings. I live in SOUTH mississippi near the coast and there is NOTHING here to help breastfeeding moms expect a ton of ignorant people who think that its DISGUSTING. Over 85% of new moms refuse to even try. So the MS dept of health decided that if you have over 22 hours towards any degree..have nursed for longer than 6 mths with more than one child then they will send you to school to get qualified to teach and help. I am also a nursing student right now with the hopes of becoming a midwife, I volunteered (at our last assignment) for the family support center to help moms. So they took all that into consideration and let me start...but honestly I think with the resources that I find here and at kellysmom I know more than the lc that helped me when I had little man 4 weeks ago at the hospital (she had never breastfeed a child and said that I should try to supplement cause he was rooting a lot). Sorry if I rambled on to much just woke up
