I may have helped save a nursing relationship today!!

I tested a newborn today (I'm an audiologist), & the baby was squirmy & we were having trouble getting him to pass the test- so I asked if mom bf'd or had a bottle for him. Mom said that she does both- I just said that if he didn't calm down quickly she may want to nurse him to get him back to sleep so we could perform the test. Basically, she did decide to bf him to sleep & while we were waiting for him to calm, we chatted about bfing- I asked her why she supplemented- she gave me the line about 'not enough supply'- the baby cries after she finishes nursing- & that her pedi had told her to supplement. I told her that was a load of hooey... and that if the kid is crying, it means HE isn't finished. We talked about NOD, NOT supplementing, but just nursing all the time... and she was really excited that there was a solution- because she really wanted to EBF. So I gave her this website for a resource (I didn't think about LLL, since I never really used them- wish I had thought of that), and hopefully she'll be on soon asking you lovely ladies for some advice!! I also told her to change pediatricians!! It just made me feel good & I'm glad I was able to step outside my professional area & do some LACTIVISM today!

Yay!

I hope she has a great long nurse-in and feels wonderful with a better supply and a EBF baby

It's truly wonderful to have health care providers who are supportive of breastfeeding.

A caution though - if she was supplementing more than a bottle or so a sudden w/draw of that supplement may cause a problem. Did you discuss w/ her how to tell if her baby is getting enough, how to increase her supply and/or locations where she can get this info?
