Non Vaxing Momma, worried about sending daughter to school....

Hello,

My daughter who is 2 1/2 will be starting a co-op preschool in our town in the fall, she will be 3! She is VERY ready for school. She is a social bug and needs the kid interactions! She is so bored at home, and I just had a baby 10 weeks ago and she is really lacking attention and play time that I used to be able to give her... so I thought starting school would be a great outlet for her.

She will be going 3 days a week from 8:30-12:00.

My FEAR is, is that she isnt vaccinated. She had a SEVERE reaction to her 2 month vaccinations, and CANNOT receive anymore. She also was just diagnosed with Epilepsy 8 weeks ago. So... with that said. How do you all deal with the fears of Dieases? Such as having your child attend preschool and being with other kids? I know that ALMOST all the children there are vaccinated except for a couple of families.

Do you all have experience with having a child starting preschool who is not vaxed and than a non vaxed baby at home? How did you become comfortable and not freak out by thinking she is going to catch something (Pertussis) and bring it home to the baby? When she starts school he will be 8 months old.

Anyways, just wanted to hear your opinion and feelings of having a non vax kid in school!

Thanks!

You might have better luck posting this on the vax board. (More responses.)

I have a son in school and two daughters in daycare, and none of them are vaxed.

I think if you do research on the diseases that scare you, you'll find comfort. For example, BFing babies rarely catch pertussis. Plus, someone can be a carrier for a disease they are vaxed against, and still pass it on to others, so even if your oldest was vaxed, that would still not be a protection for the younger baby.

Additionally, the pertussis vax is one of the most highly reactive vaxes on the market. Many serious, life-altering reactions are reported with this shot (often the ones that involve persistent neurological problems). Plus, it's fairly ineffective -- pertussis rates have continued to climb in the US, despite an increase in vaccination.

So, all that just to say: do the research on the diseases. How to treat them, what they likelihood is that your child will get them, etc. The vax board has a ton of information.
