FO: Medium soaker

This thing has been the bane of my exsistence for about 2 weeks. This started out as a birthday skirtie for a friend. I bought the yarn (licorice twist from Cat Nip Yarns), dyed it (with KoolAid), bemoaned the color I got (soooo different than what I wanted ), and then set to knitting. The soaker is a hybrid of sorts. I got to the skirtie part, got the whole skirtie done (all the while DH telling me it reminded him of the mold on pepto bismal colored afghans old ladies seem to knit) and realized it was UGLY. And poorly shaped. And UGLY. So I frogged it only to have the issue of having a random purl round in there. So I decided to do some duplicate stitching on the butt to incorprate in and had a horrible time. DH is honest with me (to a fault) and pointed out on 3 occassions that the picture was not what I was going for (such as the letter a looking more like a house). Out of pissiness I moved on to the cuffs and after 2 or 3 starts on those finally got something worth keeping. I FINALLY got those finished and bound off last night and then figured out my purl round detail this morning. IT'S DONE!!! Now I just hope she likes it. This is so far from what I originally intended that I wouldn't be surprised if she said it was ugly and she didn't like it. lol

The front...I ended up mixing and matching the Curly Purly pattern (number wise) with the Picky Pants options (elastic wasitband, short row placement). The entire soaker is done on 8's with the cuffs done on 2's and 3's (both because I ran out of needles after an increase round and just grabbed some threes to tide me over til bind off ).

The back...I started with the green and crocheted completely around. It puckered up so I did another one with the pink. It's sort of hard to tell but the dangle on the pink strand is supposed to be a flower and the green I guess could be leaves.

I love it but at the same time I can't wait to get this out of my house.

So be honest? Is it totally dorky and ugly or is it ok?

She likes it! I was so nervous about it (I have no idea why!) that I amde her go look at the blog so she could see it. That way if she liked it I could lanolize it tonight and if she didn't I could tweak it. Whew! The relief I feel is so immense!

I too, was expecting something totally horrid from your description. I would be thrilled to receive this soaker, and hope your friend is, too.
Great job, and really good work fixing your 'mistakes'.
