Can the enzymes be taken with probiotics?

I am going to start chewing my food better, it can't hurt!
No. The enzymes will just digest the probiotics before they can do any colonization. Ideally they should be taken 2 hours apart but we never manage that because there aren't enough hours in the day to take all our supplements the right way. We usually manage about 60-90 minutes apart but the probiotics should also be taken with a little food because the empty stomach is too harsh for them and they are only about 50% effective.

I asked this at our ND appt today because I cannot realistically space the enzymes and probiotics, and he said since our enzymes are plant-based they won't harm the probiotics too much & it's ok to take them together. But that wouldn't work with non-plant based enzymes.

I guess I'm sort of here now, although I'm still avoiding lots of foods. ND today said for me to go ahead and eat "normally" but avoid the top 8 allergens. I've determined corn, dairy, and bananas are the major offenders but I was never able to intro soy, peanuts, gluten, etc... I've spent the past 8 weeks trying to find safe veggies and fruits and grains. He's reacted to 80% of what I have intro'd and the past couple weeks I ate all "safe" foods and he started reacting moderately! ND said at this point I need to focus on getting his digestion fixed. So now DS (14 months) is on enzymes, probiotics, CLO. We'll be on a similar path to what we were before but I'm not going to have to be so concerned about intro-ing one food at a time to myself (although I will be careful about it with the baby.)

My probiotic says to take it one hour before eating or 2 hours after. Would there be a sufficient amount of food in my belly for them to be effective?

Hmmmm. I'm no expert so I don't really know. I usually just eat a few bites of food with them since I take my enzymes with meals. DD doesn't snack-nurse, only eats full meals pretty much so unfortunately I usually give her enzymes with her meals and she gets her probiotic without any food. I try to make her take a few sips of milk but she frequently doesn't. I just figure 50% is better than nothing and once she starts eating food on a regular basis I can give her a few bites of food with them.

Not all probiotics are the same. If the directions say that you don'r need to take with food then I wouldn't worry.

Alternativelty you could call the man. & ask. Which ones are you raking?

Not sure if this is the right forum but I'm sure some of you will care...
I found a vegan, GF, fruit juice sweetened cookie at a local health food store and it's GOOD! :
Nana's Lemon Cookie (healthycrowd.com) - it is totally filling my need for a treat. I couldn't be more excited. (Is that weird? )

I totally understand. I think I would die without my Enjoy Life- CocoLoco bars (they are top-8 free.)

I'm going to look for those lemon cookies!! mmmmmm :

Aren't they great?! Who needs sugar? Nana's also makes those cookies in ginger and chocolate, if you haven't seen them already. They are delish too.

I bought a ginger one too but didn't like it enough to buy it again. LOVE the lemon though and can't wait to try chocolate (they didn't have them) although I'm not a big chocolate person so I'm thrilled enough with lemon!

Mary- I just remembered that you're in my area!! Where did you find them? I just looked at their website, and don't feel like spending $25 for a box of them without trying them first... did you get them local?

Oh those sound good but I'm off citrus and chocolate for now.

So I guess I don't feel safe to just exclude the top 8 yet. I've been enjoying adding some fruits and veggies back into my diet over the past couple days, but I'm still off a whole bunch. I'm off:

Soy
Chocolate
Dairy
Gluten
Citrus
Eggs
Berries
Shellfish
Peanuts
Corn
Potatoes
Bananas

I know DS reacted strongly to dairy, bananas, potato, and corn. I think he reacted pretty strongly to chocolate before I went on the TED, so I will keep that out. I guess I will go ahead and add citrus back in to my diet -- I was thinking that was one of the top 8 allergens but now looking again I see it isn't. So maybe I can join you all in lemon cookie heaven after all.. :

I give my kids their probiotics and CLO just before bed, so a while after dinner and long before their next meal.

I am going to start looking around for cookies here too!

We are finally going to a naturopath today. I hope I like it. DS looks great and has for a week and a half, but we never know when things could get worse, so I am glad to be going.

Information overload here.

I finally decided to go read the Healing the Gut cheat sheet and have been involved with that for a few days. Also am trying to line up child care (first time non-family ) last-minute - fun.

The eczema front is much improved! Sleeping still could be better and is compounded by itching/scratching and not just where there is eczema. Poops are creamy. Pretty happy now; just need to improve my diet I think...but i'll come up with something else later I'm sure.

So, I came across an old thread for BF mamas http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=457646

Several people advocated the SCD for healing and were saying that they went ahead and ate foods they didn't have a serious IgE reaction to (including anaphylaxis) as those foods weren't causing inflammation to the gut. Thoughts? (Read the short thread as I'm most likely misrepresenting stuff in that short statement.)

I'm also attracted to the Nourishing Traditions "diet" advocated by JaneS if anyone her knows her or of her. Sorry I don't have a URL; I've been to way to many web pages lately and need to get off the computer!

to all the mamas. I've become obsessed in reading about allergies and the immune system and antibiotics and...
