Do you buy from any of these companies?

ALERT OF THE WEEK:
PUT ORGANIC BACK INTO "ORGANIC" & NATURAL BACK INTO "NATURAL"
In response to OCA's recent alert regarding our discovery of the carcinogen 1,4-Dioxane contaminating a wide variety of leading personal care products misleadingly labeled as "organic" or "natural", many of our readers have contacted us wondering how they can best contact these companies to express their frustrations (read more about the study and see a complete list of products here). Literally, tens of thousands of consumers have purchased expensive products from offending companies, thinking they were paying extra for a product that was truly natural and safe for their families, whose cleansing and moisturizing ingredients were made from certified organic, not conventional or petrochemical, material . As indicated in the previous issue of Organic Bytes, the OCA has issued Cease and Desist letters to not only the companies who tested positive for Dioxane with misleading organic brand claims, but also brands with organic brand claims that may have tested clean, but regardless use petrochemical compounds and/or no organic material in major cleansing and moisturizing ingredients. We would like to invite our readers to write a brief letter to these companies whose products you may have used, expressing your concerns,to help develop evidence in a lawsuit that will be filed on Earth Day if companies do not commit to cleaning up or dropping their organic claims. OCA requests that you include your address, and TAKE ACTION HERE, where you can read the slightly longer letter specifying which companies are at issue and why: http://www.organicconsumers.org/arti...icle_11457.cfm

THE OCA HAS FILED CEASE AND DESIST LETTERS TO THE FOLLOWING COMPANIES WHO ARE CURRENTLY MISLEADINGLY LABELING THEIR PRODUCTS:
Jason "Pure, Natural & Organic"; Avalon "Organics"; Nature's Gate "Organics"; Kiss My Face "Obsessively Organic"; Juice "Organics", Giovanni "Organic Cosmetics"; Head "Organics"; Desert Essence "Organics"; Ikove "Organic"; Stella McCartney CARE “100% Organic”; Ecocert; Estee Lauder; OASIS

Yes! Ack nothing is safe! I need to go completely hippie and use Dr Bronners for everything, not just washing my face and body....

Burt's Bees isn't on the offenders list, is it? Please tell me something I use is safe.

Burt's Bees was not on the list. Thank goodness! I have to admit, after the report, I bought a big ole bottle of Dr. Bronners for my kids and myself. (I still haven't completely won over my DH yet )

I have used JASONS before. We had already switched back to Avalon ORganics shampoo before I read the press release a few weeks ago. Thank goodness! I thought it was interesting seeing that most Method products scored poorly. +I knew they seemed too mainstream to be worth it.

Nope, don't use any of those any more. I think I used the 365 lotion once and never finished the bottle and I have used Jason once too but never bought it again.

For me, I just don't like the big brands. I like to stick to smaller companies like Oyin for example or make my own. That way I know exactly what is in my products, no question about it.

Burt's Bees may not be on this list but they are owned by a large corporation.

UPDATE:
FAKE "ORGANIC" BODYCARE CARE COMPANIES GO TO COURT
The family owned Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps filed a lawsuit in California Superior Court today against numerous personal care brands to force them to stop making misleading organic labeling claims. Dr. Bronner's and the Organic Consumers Association (OCA) had previously warned offending brands that they faced litigation unless they committed to either drop their organic claims or reformulate away from main ingredients made from conventional agricultural and/or petrochemical material without any certified organic material. OCA members are expected to be witnesses and provide evidence of fraud and deception in support of Dr. Bronner's complaint.

APOLOGIES:
CLARIFICATION OF "ORGANIC" COMPANIES THAT DID NOT TEST POSITIVE FOR CARCINOGEN
Although the last issue of Organic Bytes was accurate, the third paragraph of our online alert that Bytes linked to had a typo. The fourth paragraph of the alert correctly states that OCA sent Cease and Desist letters to the following companies and certifiers that did NOT test positive for Dioxane contamination but which DO include petrochemical compound(s) combined with conventional agricultural material, without any organic material, in the main cleansing ingredients in products labeled "Organic" or "Organics":
Juice Organics, Avalon Organics, Kiss My Face Obsessively Organic, Desert Essence Organics, Head Organics, Ikove Organic and Ecocert.

UGH! : you think you can trust some of these companies. I try to buy from the little guy too; but, that's not possible for everything and the best selection is from Whole Foods. (and I'm on a budget and save $$ by buying 365 and bulk instead of shopping at Wal-Mart or Food Lion) I have to go back and access....even Seventh Gen! I have the dish liquid on my sink! :

Are they really leaving ingredients off the labels?? What companies are safe to buy from??? I just discovered juice organic sunscreen and I was so happy, I thought it was just what I was looking for

I want to ask all those companies for my money back :

Oh. this is so sad.
