Wool soakers

I have been making fleece soakers and find they leak when we are out. I was wondering if wool is better at keeping his pants dry. If so do you have to knit/crochet them or can you buy wool material and then sew it? I can crochet and knit but would rather sew.

Wool can wick when compressed just like fleece does. That said, I use wool when out all the time and rarely have a problem. A lot depends on how thick the wool/fleece cover is. If your 1 layer fleece cover is wicking, you may want to try a 2 layer cover. That is a little more bulky though. You can knit, crochet, or sew a wool cover. Crochet makes a tighter, thicker cover than knitting and tends to be more "bullet proof" but also bulkier. I like a knitted cover just fine, and oftem put them under clothes. Or you can buy wool interlock or crepe and sew a cover. I would definatly use two layers of either of these materials. My favorite though, is recycled wool sweaters. You can get two covers out of a single sweater, longies from the sleeves and a soaker from the body.

Hi!

I like both - wool interlock and knitted shorties/longies. I don't really knit soakers except for newborn size. Other than that I like shorties or longies that they can wear as their pants. There is also a Yarn Crafts forum here on MDC.
You might also consider your diapers - are they absorbent enough?
Here are some wool shorts I sewed up for my son. I dyed them with Kool Aid http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2117/...b30a0082_o.jpg
