My son was the same way in K and this year, in 1st grade, he, like an earlier poster's son, topped out at level 44 and we got the note saying that they couldn't assess him any further at this time.
It's not really a big deal, I don't think. Since the beginning of the year he's been going to a special group of 2nd and 3rd graders for a reading workshop a couple of times a week. When he's with his own class for reading, he partner-reads with another child and helps them, or is often allowed to bring in his own chapter books to read quietly to himself. I don't know how much he's really being challenged, but he's happy with the set-up and I think at his age that's the most important thing. He loves to read and I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize that.
Perhaps next year your daughter could have some reading sessions with an upper grade? My son has had lots of fun making friends with the "big kids" this year!
