Need Natural Induction Help

Ok, so maybe my title wasn't worded quite right but it works and I can't think of anything better. My husband was allowed to come home for 10 days of emergency leave. He has to leave and go back to basic training Monday morning (the 21st). We need to get this baby out before then. I have been having contractions on and off, and I am a little dilated and very soft... so I know my body is ready it just needs a kick start. Any ideas? People keep mentioning certain things to take but not how to take them, so yeah!! Any ideas and how to do said ideas would be fantastic. Also, LOTS of labor vibes/water breaking vibes would be great. We are already doing a lot of walking and a lot of sex :P

I wish I could help you more, but I am probably the longest prego here. :/

What I would suggest is perhaps looking into acupuncture (haven't tried this myself yet). Other than that, there is Belly dancing, birth ball bouncing, pineapple, RRL tea a couple times a day, and prime rose oil on the cervix. If you have a care provider, you can have them strip your membranes if you are dilated (and you are comfortable with the risks).

I would not suggest castor oil, but that's just me!

Good luck, and : to you!

I wouldn't do castor oil either! Yuck. And way harsh.

Go get a pedicure, my ctx picked up after that (at least for a little bit) or just from sitting in the massage chair there. I'd try acupuncture for sure. A girlfriend told me of a guy in Oly that's supposed to be good. I may have to check him out myself. Fred Klemmer is his name, I think? I'd have to double check to be sure.

EPO, I'm doing 1300x2 orally and 1300x2 vaginally starting today. (My mil came into town on Saturday for two weeks.) I'm 75% effaced already.

There's a homeopathic remedy you can use if you're already having ctx from what my midwife said. It will either regulate or stop them depending on what your body needs to do. I can't think of the name of it though. Search here somewhere for that?

I know there are herbs that can be used, but I would only do those under the suggestion of a midwife. Maybe you should get a call in to yours and ask?

Best of luck, honey. Hope everything is o.k. and that this baby comes before he has to be back!

Not a big supporter of induction in any form unless absolutely necessary. I did castor oil (2 ounces in a juice glass of OJ) with both my first and second and it did nothing but make me soooooooo sick to my stomach (morning sickness had nothing on castor oil sickness... I had to lay completely still for 7 HOURS!!!!!!). And then I got horrendous diarrhea.

The homeopathic is caulophylum (sp?).. it's the homepathic form of one of the cohoshes (black I think). I've tried it... didn't do a thing.

Neither did two hour sessions of accupuncture (my accupuncturist said I was the FIRST woman in her 25 yrs of practice that was full term and didn't go into labor within 24hours of treatment!!!

All my midwives have said that herbs can be very dangerous so yeah, I wouldn't do anything apart from the supervision of someone who really knew what they were doing. I've also tried this and it was ineffective as well. Black cohosh and blue cohosh work synergistically to both strengthen the contractions and coordinate the muscles of the uterus. You take 5 - 20 drops in water every hour or half hour (depending on who you talk to ). I've heard, from those it actually has an effect on, that the cohoshes are like pitocin, both in harshness and effectiveness.

I hope baby comes out on it's own

On a side note, Stripping membranes was something I was going to ask for this time if I got to 41+ wks because I'd never had it done before.

Try the pedicure. Not sure where it is, but they say there are pressure points on the foot (somewhere on the top) that will induce contractions..

Good luck

I had sex and then went for a very brisk walk. when i got home, my ctx started. i also had lots of pineapple that day. Homeopathic cimicifuga and caullophyllum are gentle and wont do a thing unless your body is ready. Good luck!

Well as someone who has been trying EVERYTHING the past few weeks to get baby to come, I can tell you baby won't come if baby is not ready. I have become quite the expert in what to try though, LOL. I've tried everything except castor oil (tried last time and it didn't work) and the cummin tea which I'm considering.

I've been taking Evening Primrose Oil since 36 weeks and have worked my way up to 3,000mg orally everyday. I don't take any vaginally just because, but you can do that too. I take RRL capsules about 7 pills a day. I'm having sex, eating pineapple and eggplant, walking, lifting things...etc. Nothing as of yet. Not even BH. I won't do the castor oil... don't want to be sick. I'm thinking of trying the homeopathic version of the cohoshes at 40 weeks (which is 2 days). I won't do the regular version because of VBAC and it acting like pitocin. I'm firmly beginning to believe that nothing works if it's not time... as much as I'd like to say different.

Well as your doula -

I would say (since I know what you had earlier today)

sex
walking
sex
hula on the birth all
sex
pineapple does actually work well for some, but grapefruit can be better and eggplant parmesean has been called the labor starter entree for good reason.
sex
walking up and down stairs sideways
sex
accupressure (call me for the points, I will email you an article that's very good if you want to self administer, or call me and I will see if I can get down there tonight)

And then maybe some sex

But seriously, try to not go down the herbal route. It's one thing to do that directed under an herbalists care, it's quite another to do that on your own. Castor oil is not for the faint of heart, and doesn't work for a lot of people, and leaves you dehydrated and low on potassium stores. Not a good thing. I advised you already to ask about the foley catheter as an option. The best thing you can do right now, is have a lot of sex (semen is good to get labor started), and do anything and everything to make sure that a)baby is in a good optimal position (uniformly on your cervix and as engaged as possible), and b)you are rested, hydrated and a well fed, oiled mama machine ready to birth your baby.

Not in your DDC, but had to respond to your posting. I went to 42 weeks on the dot, and was chomping at the bit like mad to get DD3 out. I have to agree w/ all the PP to NOT do the castor oil or herbals. What worked for me was getting hooked up to the breast pump. It will stimulate your body's own production of oxytocin. I pumped (used the Medela Pump In Style double pump) three times a day for half hour at a time, and the day before she was born I went to an acupuncturist AND used the breast pump after the appointment. Who knows if that's what sent me into labor, she was two weeks overdue, after all, but I was miserable.

Hope you and DH are holding your LO soon, and happy birthing.

Nipple stimulation?

Is there any particular good time to do nipple stimulation? I mean -- is it effective if you're still not dilated at all, or is it more of an augmenter once you've already started dilating...?
i know nipple stim has helped lots of people, but my DD was nursing like a fiend around the clock and i still went 4 days 'late' with DS.

i definitely wouldn't resort to herbs or anything right now. but i understand your desire to get baby out while your DH is home. i can't imagine the pressure.

have you tried doing any visualizations? i've found visualization very helpful in all my pregnancies. and it's something you can do to help you relax, and focus, and feel proactive, with absolutely no negative side effects.

and have a talk with the baby and explain why you'd like him/her to come out sooner rather than later. i think they understand a lot more than we give them credit for!
