Ready to assemble kitchen cabinets?

My dh uses these sometimes - he's a contractor, builds and flips houses. They are typically much cheaper and the quality is a little better for the price. I don't know that I'd buy without seeing them first though. We get them from a local building materials clearinghouse.

Ready to assemble kitchen cabinets?

Has anyone ever purchased these? We are looking at a set that is online and they are solid wood and wondering how they are. I cam nervous about ordering them online because if they suck ... well i am out alot of money ...

My DH installed some in my MIL's kitchen and they are really nice. You can't tell they are pre-made at all.. I think they got them at Lowes. They are also solid wood, except for the sides, those are laminate.

If you have an IKEA within driving distance, I urge you to check out their cabinets. They were rated highly by Consumer Reports a few years ago, they have a 25 year warranty, they are easy to assembly and they are cheap. We love ours.

I would ask about a specific brand and model someplace like the kitchen forums at gardenweb.com.

I'm planning a kitchen remodel this summer. It's very hard to answer a question like yours because every brand and model will be different. There are going to be RTA cabinets that are good quality and others that are crap. I've found gardenweb to be really helpful.

Can you read anyone's review on the cabinets? That is always a big help.
Also, how handy is the person installing them? You have to have the right tools and be good with meauring, leveling, etc.

Oh we are pretty handy people ... and my dad will be helping who is the man when it comes to carpentry ...

I built an island that I designed myself out of IKEA cabinets. They're not going to last forever, but it looks great, works well and will last long enough considering the price I paid was 1/10 of what Lowe's wanted to build me an island.
