A sort of conversion question

I'm making sort of a sampler afghan. I'm using wool (so far purewool, HPY, PF, Louet Riverstone Worsted, Cascade 220) and using different patterns for the squares. Some are garter stitch just to get them done quickly but a lot are in different patterns that I learn as I make them. So far all of them have been from Barbara Walker's Learn To Knit Afghan book, and the number to cast on varies, per the book's instructions for each square.

Anyway, I'm wondering... I want to incorporate this

as at least one of the squares. In the book, you cast on 39 stitches for a garter stitch square, 41 for a stockinette square, 44 for a certain square which incorporates a specific pattern.

The pattern that I want to use calls to cast on 37 stitches. Can I make this successfully for my blanket?

My darling, you're a crocheter, aren't you? If you make the said square and it comes out too small you can always add a single crochet border round the edge to make it the same size as all the rest.
FWIW, though, I'd extend the garter ridge border by one stitch each side and I would block your squares before you stitch them together.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe that you remember that I crochet :

I barely remember that myself I haven't picked up a hook since I figured out how to knit.

I will add a stitch to each side then. Thank you
