Feng Shui (includes links to old threads!) - Page 2

4 questions:

1. Is wealth area the same as prosperity area? (I would love a great afirmation for my business (anyone got one) to put up in my housemate's closet - where he allowed me a little space to anchor for prosperity even though his room's a clutter fest!) My business relies heavily on word of mouth too and is artisitc.

2. Also, I looked all around and can't see the affirmation mentioned - what is it?

3. My desk area is in the creativity bagwa which also happens to be the kitchen. My desk area is ALWAYS overflowing with papers, orders, boxes of photos, crapola. I have a filing system - it just gets used about twice a year! Although I know the solution is to clean it up - I just want to ask those of you who have a work/desk area in your home for your career - is it clean all the time??? I mean is everything put away all the time? I wanna know!

4. Ok, a big roadblock for me -the romance area. It's my laundry room - which is 1/2 full of appliances, 1/4 full of closets, and a 1/4 full of crapola again (stacked behind the washer) - plus it has the back door leading out to my back yard where the puppies dwell. Insights? How can a a utility room be made "romantic?! ?

Thanks - still making baby steps.

Ahem. Sorry... are my feng shui questions totally retarded? I always seem to inquire and then no one has an answer? Or maybe you're juts looking and saying - geez this girl's a stoopid girl...

Trabot, here, sorry, I was poking around on lots of things today....just now getting back to FS:

Wealth and prosperity are the same. I don't have a affirmation right on me....hold on, let me look.....since I know you are a sag I'll give you this one.. and by the way...this is just me....someone else may have an even better one...but here is one...

"God alone is my substance, my supply and my ever present abundant support." I dug that up from religious science thingy.

word of mouth stuff is more about the fame area of the feng shui baquas.

Go back to the last page of fs part two and see mama2nicola..she came up with a great affirmation.

Start filing and cleaning up that desk..imho... new moon is thursday, why don't you clean it up between now and then. By the way, Mars goes direct this weekend so that is a nice little wave to ride.
No, my desk started getting more and more cluttered as the months I was working on that last project. I started feeling more and more depressed and low energy and the mercury retrograde just really took me over that's why I HAD to clean my desk. I can't tell you how much better I feel and there have been a few very, very positive calls in the last few days. Coincidence? I am going to work like a dog to keep this area, clean, clean, clean...

Oatmeal, go out and get some of the terrah collins books on feng shui..or check them out standing at a border's bookstore...she goes on and on about how you should make that room your fun, creative, daring, inspired room. Paint it pink, put romantic photos or posters on the wall..hang a chandelleir...(sp?) make this room a fun room. You should feel good everytime you walk in. Couples in love, those photos go up...kisses, honeymoon locations..you get the drift.

---Oh it's my bugaboo! Just a bugaboo! Getting it done between now and Thursday... just thinking about it gives me a tummy ache. There's so much. I just want to tstick my head in the sand and ignore it - but every monring when i come in to cook dd's breakfast it's there - I totally get that it's bringing me down lately.
I need the strength! ----

---k - I hear what your are saying, but my point was that's it's just the most crowded (even without the stacked crapola) room in the house - virtually no wall space - it's all closet, then door then there's a window behind w/d. I could paint it pink. My LL will kill me eventually, but what the hey...

I can maybe tape ,magazine pics of lovers on the closet doors, that is definitley a possibility.

Thanks for the input. Maybe a bug will bite me tomorrow and I'll tackle the momumental , mess of chaos that is my desk...

I think was mom2nicolas affirmation from other thread:

"My healthy, loving family is enjoying the abundance we are receiving"

That's the way I have been feeling about my desk too. Just do a little here & there & it's amazing the difference you'll see. Like FlyLady says, "you can do anything for 15 minutes!" Set a timer & just dig in for that time, take a break & do it again. You'll probably be surprised at how much less time it will take than you thought .

Yep, that's the one . Now I just have to put it up in my bedroom, as suggested.

Today I bought a new 3-section laundry hamper to go in the laundry room (to replace a hamper, a basket & a pile in the bedroom) & a shoe rack for the bedroom closet. Took the shoes off the rack behind the front door & moved it into dd's room for her shoes & stuff. Now there is nothing behind the front door . What a difference! Let the chi flow in ! Now to move the robes from behind the bedroom door...
I haven't got around to getting any crystals or anything yet. I took a "suncatcher" (hard to describe - plastic & sparkles in the sun) from where it was hanging in the kitchen not catching anything to our bedroom window. Hope it's sunny tomorrow so I can see how it looks. Do you think this would work as well as an actual crystal?

Oatmeal is a Sagittarius.

The sun catcher sounds great, Mama2nicola.

but you'll still need something to anchor wealth. Who knows you might pass a yard sale or something that will have something inspriirng. also, take a look around when you drive in neighborhoods, more people have FS up than we realize. And you might get a good idea from someone else.

my dh and ds and Iwalked to a movie theater the other day and I was looking in yards and I saw more FS stuff than I realized before. Someone had a giant metallic green ball that seemed to no do anything but be decorative. but when I looked at the front door, I realized the green ball was in the 'family' area of the yard.

I think people often do feng shui intuitively. They don't know that it's feng shui but it "feels right" to them so they do it and it looks feng shui to the knowledgible observer.

I have read that using fish to energize the prosperity area is good. I've done this myself (I have a picture of koi in what is the prosperity area of my home....before that I had a fish drawn by one of my children but it was, ahem, destroyed....sigh.

Yes, I was planning to put something out there on the grass. I see our local Liquidation World has fountains on sale, so I'll check that out when I get a chance.

We are thinking about putting a large porch across the front of the house (probably 6'-8' deep). I guess this will be included in the bagua when it's complete, so everything will have to be adjusted
post #30 of 746
Hello! I'm new to all of this feng shui stuff. I went to the library tonight to check out some of the books mentioned and they didn't have any of them. They are however getting them through interlibrary loan. Now I just have to wait! I told dh that during our wait we are going to start tossing! Any other ideas?? Also how do you figure out where your areas are. I saw someone mention 123 345 789 but how do you figure it out? Sorry if this is a stupid question but please forgive the newbie!

there are two schools of feng shui. One is compass and the other is 'form' . Compass is much more complicated.

most of the books you are getting are form school.

in the meantime....

imagine the layout of your house.

now imagine your front door.

okay in feng shui, the house is divided into 9 equal squares.

just like this

123
456
789

now back to your front door....your front door can only be in either position #7, or #8 or #9

which place is your front door? Tell me and will work through this together.

I posted this on a TTC forum and Tarbot suggested I post it here too... I have learnt so much from reading and lurking in these forums that I hope I can do the same for someone else....

Hi

I am usually just a lurker on these pages but have been keeping an eye on this thread for quite some time and lately been thinking I should post a quick message as some of you might be interested in my story... though I do feel a little silly, but here goes!

Waaaaaaay back in April I started thinking more spititually about getting pregnant (rather than just the physical hows) and suddenly realised I almost had a negative block to being pregnant as I couldn't imagine myself pregnant and was almost scared to think about it... so I collected a few baby things for a small 'alter' in our room and started trying some positive affirmations about getting pregnant..... that cycle I had 3 negative home tests the week after AF was due and for some reason felt really lost with the whole thing....

The next weekend DH went on a drive to a local park and walked up to the top of the moutain for a look... I had felt a bit silly but had carried with me an orange as I had read somewhere that going in to nature and taking and offering to Quan Yin could help ease your mind or give you the solution to your problems. So I sat on the top of a large rock on the top of this moutain and asked Quan Yin to help make me fertile and ready for pregnancy, and I left my orange for her in a secluded area.

The following weekend we got a postive home test result and I was stunned to find out I was pregnant!

And actually I probably should have been more careful with my wording and asked for A baby as 11 weeks later we discovered we were having twins! With no history of twins in our families (though identical twins are just a fluke) and no other reason to explain it I can't help but feel Quan Yin certainly helped to make me fertile!

So I don't know whether or not this will help anyone, or whether it was more the positive thinking rather than asking the godess, or whether it was a pure fluke........ but I just thought I would share!

Good luck everyone.

Do I include my attached garage in the layout of the house? Are the upstairs and downstairs considered to be in the same quadrant? In other words if a room is directly above quadrant 1 then that is also considered quatrant 1. What about an unfinished basement?
Thanks for your help!

Regarding attached garages....

Let's say X equals house
and G is garage..
and D is driveway

XXXXXXGG
XXXXXXGG
XXXXXXDD
XXXXXXDD

in this layout... I would not include the Garage.

HOwever if the second story goes above the garage. Then yes I would include the garage.

but what if your layout looks like this:

x equals house
G equals garage
D equals driveway

XXXXXGGDDD
XXXXXGGDDD
XXXXXXX
XXXXXXX
XXXXXXX

Now in this layout I would definitely include the Garage because it is one corner of the house. See?

you do include basements and second stories? Yes.
What ever the quadrant is on the first floor is the same quadrant on the second floor.

Is this starting to make sense?

and which quadrant is your front door?
I'm pretty sure my front door is in 8.

My second floor is only partially over the garage
so it looks like this
xxxxgg(first floor)
xxxxxn(second floor)n=outside does that make sense?
Thank You for all your help!!
Thread Starter
Yeah, it looks like you have to include that corner of your garage in your late out. You don't have to include the whole garage just that corner.

so, if door is 8. Now you can line up the whole grid over your house.

and so my next question is...what bagua is your garage? it is one of the corners..is it 1, 7, 3 or 9?

if you need to give the graph again, that's okay..and we'll figure it out together.
I think I actually need to include my whole garage because it backs up to our family room.

ggggxxddxxxx
ggggxxxxxxxx
ggggxxxxxxxx
ffffffffxxxxxxxx
ffffffffxxxxxxxx
My garage is either 7 or 9. Right?
My dh is going to draw up a scale "map" of our house tonight to be more accurate.
Thanks for your help!

looking at this:

ggggxxddxxxx
ggggxxxxxxxx
ggggxxxxxxxx
ffffffffxxxxxxxx
ffffffffxxxxxxxx

I see that you door is in 8.

so, following this scale I would say...

999988887777
999988887777
666655554444
666655554444
333322221111
333322221111

which means to me that angels and helpful people bagwa
and a little bit of creativity children is in your garage.

does this make sense?
Yup it makes sense. So now what do I do, besides cleaning out all the clutter!
Thread Starter
cleaning the clutter, get rid of things that are broken. Things you want to keep but are broken get those to the shop and get them fixed. Even if you don't have the money to pick it up right now, at least drop it off.

now that you know the baguas(bagwas) walk around your house and take a real hard look...how is your relationship corner..a mess? How is your relationship?

How is the fame? How is the abundance corner?

How is the family section, dusty, messy..how is the family in general?

Just take a look around and 'see'..

I really encourage you to look through feng shui #1 thread and Feng shui #2 thread, now that you know your layout it might start to make more sense.

in addition..
here are some tricks to how you might want to fix the areas or add to them...this is something I posted in the middle of feng shui 2, but it might be of help now.
The Western Guide to Feng Shui: Room by Room

and here are a few notes to share from it. it is not verbatim so there is no copywrite thingy.. but just to give everyone a good heads up.

#1 wealth and abundance

Water features which has the water moving is encouraged. wind chimes and prayer flags and banners that symbolically call in wealth and prosperity. beloved possessions, and collections that are literally valuable.
Posters paitings and photographs of the things you'd like to buy or experience.
the book says all blues, purples and some reds... I also know gold hightlights like frames etc, are ideal for this corner.
quotes and affimations related to gratitude, welath and prosperity.

#2 fame

You should put up symbols of your accomplishments, such as diplomas, awards and certificates or trophies.
should have pleasant lighting.

artwork that depicts people or animals.
items that are made from animals, leather, faux-fur, feathers, bone and wool.

images of people you respect.
symbols of your goals for the future.
objects or patterns that are triangular or conical in shape.
all subtle and bright and deep shades of red.
sayings quotes and affirmaton relating to integrity and to your fame and reputation.

#3 romance

things to put up...artwork portraying romance and love. No kidding.

pairs of things, such as candlesticks, flowers, books and statues.
mementos from romantic experiences
favorite photographs of you or you and your true love
items in reds, pinks and white.
quotes, sayings and affirmation on love and romance.

#4 Family bagua

Okay, here is where it is a little different than my understanding or my own knowledge. this particular book indicates this quadrant is health & family.
All my other sources say this is family.

Here is where you want your healthy plants.
In this quadrant
fresh flowers is significant, the book indicates, dried and silk flowers with bright appearance.
artwork depicting your concept of ideal health.
artworkdepicting a happy family
garden landscape artwork.
anything made from wood such as tables, chairs, bowls.
Pillars, columns and pedestals.
photos of family and family of friends.
blues and greens.
floral prints and stripes including linens, wallpaper and uphostery.

quotes, sayings and affimations concerning honesty and forgiveness.

#5 Center square Health

This particular book does not work with yellow as the color for the center bagua.
But all my other books do as well as my form and my compass school feng shui practitioners.
So, with that in mind, I would say yellow in this room. Again, like what I indicated up in family health, applies to this room, at least the health part. Healthy plants. Etc. Flowers, things that are bright and cheery. Photos or posters of things that remind you of good health what ever that would be.
I would keep this area clear of clutter!

#6

children and creativity.

art or objects that are especially creative, whimsical, playful, colorful or that stimulate your creative juices.
toys, dolls and stuffed animals that bring you joy.

however, note, if this is the master bedroom you should not overwhelm the room with the toys, just a tidbit here and there. If there is too much child stuff it can bring out the immaturity of the relationship. I had a friend that had too many dolls in her bedroom and her husband treated her like a doll. no kidding.

photographs of children, along with anything children made by hand.

circular and oval shapes.
items made from metal.
items in white and light pastels.
quotes, sayings and affirmations that apply to joy, children and creativity.

# 7
This corner is the area of knowledge and self cultivation.

in that area you should put books, tapes or other material that you are currently studying.
art work that portrays mountains or quite places such as meditation or gardens. Pictures or photos of people you consider wise. items in black blue or green.
mediatiitive or inspriation sayings or quotes or affirmations.

great for bookcases and books. Globes, etc.

#8
work area

This is good for water features such as aquarium, fountains etc. however looking out the front door the fountain should be on the left side. Not the right side. (as I recall from my FS consultant)
any artwork or photos depicting water, pools, lakes or streams might be nice near the door.

any image or object that symbolizes your career.

And of course, mirrors, crystal glass things. Items which are black or very dark blue or dark tones.
quotes or sayings, affirmations related to courage and following your path.

again, keep it clutter free. Let the energy flow in. Frequently this is where the front door is located if so, make sure there is nothing blocking the front door entrance. Big heavy piece of furniture. Etc.

Anyway, think of something that would be appropriate for your career.

#9
Helpful people and travels and angels. (I forgot about travel, glad I dusted the book off)

This is the area where you would put religious or spiritual figures you love sunch as angels, saints, goddesses, teacher etc.
objects that have personal spiritual associations, such as rosary crystal or book of prayers photograpshe of people who have been helpful to you such as mentors teachers relatives, art posters and collages of places you'd like to visit or live.
quotes or sayings or affirmations on miracles, heavenly experiences, synchronicity.
This is where I have put photos of dead friends or family members and asked for a little help from the other side.
