non-toxic silver polish?

I have a couple of tarnished silver or silver-plate items hanging around the house. I don't want to get rid of them, but I also don't want to be using silver polish with possibly toxic ingredients. Any suggestions for a simple silver polish that is all-natural and safe?

You can ionize the tarnish off your silver. Take a small bowl of warm water, dissolve table salt to make a saline solution. Immerse strips of aluminum foil in the water. Soak your silver in it for a few minutes, then rub away the tarnish with a cloth. Or maybe you're supposed to rub with the aluminum; I forget. Anyway, it does work. I've done it. Learned that trick from a book called Home, Safe Home.

I use baking soda and HOT water. The tarnish wipes off easily. It stinks like all get-out, though.

Thanks, I'll try that!

Toothpaste

I have a silver tea service I inherited from my Gran. I polish it with toothpaste, then rinse with water and buff with a flannel.
