maybe you'd better exclude planned c-sections from your responses

Why on earth wouldn't it be "no eating after 9AM" for a 3pm surgery then? I mean, if it's okay to have a huge meal that ends right at 11:59pm and then have surgery at 6am....

If hospitals can't personalize things enough to even handle that kind of variation, it's no wonder their malpractice rates are through the roof.

Hmmm... it was late afternoon following 32 hours of labor (at home and at hospital).

I think you'll need to seperate scheduled vs "emergent" or "emergency" c/s in order to get useful data. It would make complete sense that scheduled surgeries would take place during "normal' hours (if that really is the purpose of the survey).

Around 7:30 a.m. - I'd been ruptured for 24 hours (stupid unnecessary induction) and my OB started really pushing for the c/s because I had a fever and DS was getting tachycardic. (Shouldn't have let her rupture me, but that's a rant for another thread)

I waited until shift change at 7 a.m. before I consented to surgery. My options were to have my OB do the surgery after being up all night on call, or to wait for her partner to come on duty. I really liked my OB a lot, and I didn't know her partner at all, but I'd rather have a well-rested surgical team than one that's sleep-deprived and in a rush to finish and go home...

I voted 6am-12pm, but now that I really think about it I'm pretty sure ds was born at 12:30pm. My water had broke about 51 hours before.

I believe I read that most are done at 5pm and 10pm which translates into "get home for dinner" and "get home and into bed before its too late".

5:56 p.m. on a Sunday for the first, unscheduled.
7:33 a.m. Monday morning for the second, scheduled.

They joked that we were "the 4am c-section". not funny.
The intern also joked I'd be wearing a bikini that summer. also not funny.

Mine was scheduled (breech) and I just wanted to get it done and over with and have the rest of the day to recoup. Baby was born at 9:58 AM.

Ds was born (due to being breech and near 11lbs - as well as my first and being ill informed though looking back, I dont think I regret the decision) @ 15:55 on a Monday! - (also unscheduled - my water broke that morning around 9 and I was already 4cm when I went in!)

Both were unplanned.

First -- 2 days of hard labor, fully dilated by 10 or 11 pm; c-section at 3:30 am.

Second -- 16 hours of hard labor, c-section at 2:00 pm.

I don't think there was any "time" issues. Both were surprise and sudden decisions. Both had me in surgery within minutes of the midwife's/doc's/my call for a section.

9:42 am

They schedule them every 2 hours and the 7:30 am slot was already taken, so they booked me at 9:30. It wasn't emergent, but it was urgent. I had pPROM 10 weeks earlier and had begun to abrupt. Ds was breech, so it was a c-section for me.

Mine was at 10:53AM (unplanned), but it was on a Sunday, which is another variable to consider. It's during "normal office hours" but on a weekend.

Yep. I had read that around 4 pm was the most common time for un-scheduled c-sections and wanted to see how everyone's numbers matched up.

I thought about doing that but figured that scheduled ones fall into office ours also. The labor and delivery unit is usually busier at night but more c-sections are performed during the day. I've heard the mornings are also busy because moms labor all night and then the docs come onto their shift and start sectioning to clear out the units to prepare for scheduled sections.

Interesting so far.

First was for hospital caused placental abruption at 6:19pm.

Second was due to breech presentation at 8:00am.

I used to work in a labor and delivery unit where we needed to revamp our staffing ratios. We went back and looked at historical data for like 5 years. Our busiest times for births was between 3-7 pm. The busiest times for total patients (rule out labor, odd pains, whatever, plus births) was from 7-11 pm. Our slowest time was 3-7 am. Except the providers got wind of that and started sending in women for inductions and scheduled c-sections at 5:30 so that they could be ready before 7am.

DS was delivered surgically at 8:14 a.m. on a Sunday, unplanned but non-emergent 52 hours after my water broke (and a 34-hour failed induction).

We (DH and I) made the decision at 6 a.m., and one of the factors in the decision was that shift-change was coming up at 7, and we didn't really want to get started with yet *another* midwife (we were on our third so far). She had recommended for the section at 5 a.m., at which point we decided to give it another hour (the diagnosis was secondary uterine inertia... basically, the pit dragged me to 8 cm at which point my uterus said "F this s***" and started conking out).

1:36am, it was unplanned.

dd was born at 921am but the decision for a c section was made around 530 or 6am. it was unplanned but an emergency because my bp was skyrocketing. she was born at 35 weeks.

my sister was a semi emergency c-section at 33 weeks due to pre-e. she was born around 530pm (she was supposed to be born in the morning but my mother had eaten so that had to wait)

i was born at 831am, i was a planned c-section

i don't recall what time my brother was born. he was also a planned c section.
