Natracare or Seventh Generation pads for post-partum?

I am a die hard mama cloth user but I want to make it as easy as possible post-partum on myself (laundry wise) so I want to use natural disposable mama pads for the first half of heavy time. Then maybe switch to my cloth pads when I feel I'm ready. So...I can't decide which brand to get Natracare or Seventh Generation? I know I want wings. And also, remind me, how many will I use and for how long?

Thanks in advance

I think how many and how long varies with each woman from child to child. For me, my pp bleeding was pretty light. I went through about 5 pads/day on my first two days and then I rocked one to two pads a day thereafter. I also babymooned and I know that has a lot to do with not bleeding a lot. I haven't switched to mama cloth yet and I still use disposable pads for my periods. I Seventh Generation pads when I have my period and I use Natracare for pantiliners. I like both. SG comes with wings. Actually, they remind me a lot like Always pads as far as texture. They have that same sort of dri-weave feel that keeps the wetness away from you. I use the ultra thin pads for my periods and they are very absorbant and haven't leaked. I used to get skin irritation from Always and Kotex and I haven't experienced that with SG or Natracare. The wings don't have much adhesive to them but it hasn't been much of a problem for me. My main issue with SG is the packaging. It's all plastic. I keep meaning to email the company to find out if the packaging is made of recycled materials. As for Natracare, I only use the pantiliners and I don't know how their other pads are made. I've always been satisfied with their regular pantiliners. If cost is an issue, SG seems to be cheaper....at least where I shop. Hope that helped!!! :-)

I actually have just used natracare pads for the 1st time, regular period and they were unwinged regular pads. (did see on the box or the insert that they do make wings... but whether those are for post-partum or regular???...) I liked them, they were ubber soft, for absorbancy, (Letting my age out of the bag here, and maybe TMI) they reminded me of the stayfree or whatever name pads in the late 80's that I first used when I first started having periods, They do not just suck the flow into them like the pads on the market today do. They did not have that weird cover that just seemed to float like the 'old-old' pads used to have where clumps floated and slid on the top... kinda like the old type pad inards but with upgrades to the cover that allows stuff through.

never used 7th before so no way to compare.

for length of time, wow, I don't remember, that's bad, 4 and 5 years... I know with my 1st I bled and bled and bled... maybe used pads for up to a month... but most was 'regular' sized ones. With my youngest I bled a couple days and that was it, maybe a weeks worth???

Happy birthing!

(I totally understand about not wanting any added chores while pp, our midwife actually had disposable underware, maybe like 2 or 3 pair? listed to buy in her birth-kit, well I thought with my 1st, wow tha's pretty silly, but I'll tell you it was great!)

I use cloth, but I used Natracare pads on vacation a couple months ago and had the worst allergic reaction to them. It was awful! You might want to try them out before the birth so that you know if you'll react-- postpartum is not a good time to have swollen, itchy labia.

i have used both and i prefer 7th gen (the thin ones with wings ) i think they stick better. both are nice and soft, clothy feeling though.
