soooo...

When I started on the zofran generic about 2 weeks ago, I was informed my insurance would only cover 12 pills per month (28 days). My midwife needed to fax an authorization that I needed the medicine for them to cover the 2 pills per day that I'm prescribed. So, I've been paying $70 every 6 days. We're trying to buy a house, and we really need that money. I've tried to go without, and I can't. It doesn't help that much, but it takes the edge off for a few hours. Anyway, I found out from the insurance company today that she never even called or faxed the authorization. I'm so mad about it. I can't wait to see what she has to say when she calls back. :

go to Costco asap!!! seriously!

zofran is $38 for a 30 pill supply (generic, ODT or regular). I got a 150 pill supply for around $200.

Wow. I hope that she gets the paperwork done and you get covered.

I am so sorry to hear about all of you sick mamas. I am no where near what some of you are going through. Just a little quesy stomach that ended about 10 days ago.

Has anyone tried acupuncture? I went less than 2 weeks ago and I think it helped. It could have been my new thyroid meds too. But, I don't have that yucky feeling anymore. I hope when 2nd tri hits for everyone, they feel better.

I was feeling soo much better the last few days, telling everyone how good I finally felt..well guess what?? I spoke too soon! I feel HORRIBLE again! Yuck, I don't want to do anything, just lay around and stare off in space. I am feeling so guilty about it, not playing with my boys, not doing much work at work and not wanting to talk to dh. I want to just curl up and go to sleep until this is over.

I've got an appt. w/a chiropractor/acupuncturist on Friday. She can stick the needles in my damn eyeballs if it mean I can get my life back.

Let us know if it works, and if so, for how long.

you know, since I'm tired of getting advice, I haven't said this, but I take B6 IV weekly which helps me for about 2-3 days. The nauseas doesn't stop, but if I ignore it and force myself to eat, I feel a bit better (gain a bit of functioning) and don't vomit. BUT come Thurs PM WATCH OUT because I'm one sick mama again!

It's comforting to be in company of others who feel the same way. I don't actually barf, but I feel like it 24/7. and the only way I feel even remotely better is to eat. I'm only 9.5 weeks and I've gained 10 lbs. It was the same with my first two - so I'm just hoping and praying that this time it also subsides in another few weeks. I had my first appointment with the midwife yesterday and she suggested B6, but I haven't felt well enough to go to the store. LOL.

Eh, I don't mind getting advice from people who have actually experienced this. B6 is a good suggestion. I take a time-release version in a prescription prenatal, it helps a lot.

On the topic of advice from people who DON'T get it...this well-meaning but rather clueless mama in my playgroup keeps going on about ginger beer to me. "I would just take a few sips and I'd be fine." Well that's great, but clearly your nausea was not in the same league as mine if that's the case. I told her I've tried ginger candy, ginger tea, ginger everything, and it only helps a tiny tad. Then today she had a bottle to give me at group. Sweet of her, but I kinda wanted to shove it where the sun don't shine.

Yeah advice gets SO OLD!! Every week my midwife/doc are like try the perscription time released B6 and I'm like LOOK THIS WORKS I DON'T WANT TO CHANGE IT!!! GIVE ME THE IV!!!

who's still with me? I feel like I'm getting worse. I was able to eat some, and I can hardly get anything or keep anything down now. I'm starving all the time, which makes it so much worse. The only thing I have a chance of eating right now is potato chips, which really doesn't make me less hungry.

Not to brag, but I seem to be doing much better. I am not throwing up as much, but I still have extreme nausea all the time, and I have to be super careful of what I eat. However, my functionality is significantly higher yea!! Just in time for finals week.

Still sick over here. I seem to be having some periods of time where the nausea fades, though. Like Friday night I went out to dinner with my best friends from college, and I was anticipating having to be all annoying and special order something like plain pasta. But I felt pretty nausea-free, aside from poultry and some other aversions. I actually ate part of a baby back ribs appetizer! Pasta with tomato-mushroom sauce didn't go down as well; I couldn't eat much before feeling a bit off so I stopped. But overall it was a nice break from feeling so sick, and I got to really enjoy my time with my friends.

Saturday we were out all day, which tired me out. When I get tired from doing too much I find the nausea gets a lot worse. Sunday I was pretty much incapacitated all day. So nice to have DH there to take DS out and give me time to rest.

I'm definitely ready for this phase to be OVER though. I'm so sick of having this nasty taste in my mouth all the time. It feels like whatever I eat just sits in my stomach the rest of the day, fermenting and sending up bad tastes. Ugh.

One treat I've been enjoying: real Haribo gummy bears. I keep a bag in the car and it helps keep the nausea at bay a bit, and they're so yummy.

Oh, do I hear you. I don't know how many women have asked if I've tried "Pregnancy pop" (what appear to me to be overpriced lollipops that "help" w/ morning sickness) or ginger. Um, I'm vomiting multiple times a day here, it's a bit beyond lollipops. And I sensitized myself to ginger last time, so now just the taste makes me nauseous.

I'm taking unisom/B6 every 6 hours, which seems to help somewhat as long as I take it consistently (and don't vomit it back up). I've seen an acupuncturist twice, and both times I only vomited once or twice for several days afterward. But at $60 a visit, it's a bit expensive for only a few days. I had the B vit injections last time and they did nothing, unfortunately. I'm so sick (literally and figuratively) of fighting w/ my HMO that I don't even want to try and get a prescription for zofran or anything else. At least this time around, I know what to do (eat every 1-2 hours, don't let my blood sugar drop, eat even when I know it's going to come back up, small sips of liquid all the time to stay hydrated) and know it's really just a matter of time. I'm staying hydrated and am not shedding ketones, so I must be handling it okay. At least it DID end last time, so I am expecting that it will get better in a few more weeks. Doesn't necessarily make me feel better while I'm vomiting, but there it is. :

Oh, gummi bears! I discovered that I can eat my kids' gummi vitamins, which now have me wanting more. So I bought a big bag of gummi coke bottles. I can chew those non-stop. And they cut the nasty taste at the back of my mouth. Of course that means my kids want to eat them, too. My poor children - their diets are going to pot right now.

Go ahead and brag! Yay for you!

I don't see what's up with "preggie pops" or "preggie pop dorps". When my nausea started getting worse around 5-6 weeks, I thought it was just more morning sickness picking up like it did with DC#1. So I bought preggie pops and preggie pop drops. I tried them several times and they didn't do a single thing. And this was several weeks before my nausea took a turn for the worse. To me they just seemed like overpriced lollipops/candies. The ingredients weren't impressive and didn't show why they would help anymore than the blowpops at the corner gas station.

anyone ever have a good experience with them?

on a side note, we are getting ready to leave on a 1,000 mile trip to visit my family. We're driving. I'm taking unisom and praying it helps me sleep on the way!

Totally agree on the preggie pops. Great example of a product that is all about marketing. I bought some stuff at Motherhood Maternity the other day and the woman who rang me up was practically insisting that I buy some. It took all my effort to remain calm. I hate the business practices there- they are so aggressive about trying to get your address and phone number so they can sell your info to formula companies etc. :

I'm totally miserable today. Gagging and on the verge of puking since I woke up. I just can't function. I've developed some mild spring allergies, which aren't such a big deal on their own but I think all the post-nasal drip is making the nausea worse. I just want to go back to bed but can't since I have to at least marginally take care of DS. Ugh.

Annnnnd.....now I just threw up so hard it came out my nose. Good times!

I can tell my digestive system is completely shut down. My cornflakes from 6 hours ago were still in there.
