Benadryl

I have poison ivy I'm miserable but have managed to not scratch. I have read that Benadryl is a class B and therefore ok. I would like to take some tonight to dry up the histamine and get rid of this.

Anyone have experience with Benadryl while being pregnant?

I gave up all of my otcs and prescriptions back in November so I am a bit nervous about taking anything.

There's something new: me, nervous

my only experience was with benadryl in the 3rd trimester... so i dont think that would be a cleft issue... but at that point in pregnancy, my midwife actually asked me to take it as i was having allergic reactions and so sick that i hasn't slept in days. can you call a midwife or doc and get an opinion?

I will have to go the oatmeal bath route it seems; thanks for that option as I had forgotten it.

I will call the midwife later today if I find no relief.

I took Benadryl before I knew I was pregnant, and i've been freaking out about the cleft palate issue. It appears it was only 1 study that found a correlate, and it was in the 1970's, and no other study has ever found anything relating diphenhydramine, the main ingredient in Benadryl, to cleft palate. And the rate was, like, 6 in 600.

But if it makes you feel any better, I am still freaking out about it, and I plan on talking to the midwife about it.

I had to take benedryl on a regular basis since I found out I was pregnant. It was also suggested to help me sleep in my last pregnancy during the 3rd tri. I'm positive it's safe and you'll be fine taking it.
