Am I stupid?

I O'ed on the 27th of March and got a BFP on 4/14...so when is my EDD??? Are we not pg for 40 weeks? What do ya'll think????

Your due date is approximately 40 weeks after the first day of your last period. Or 38 weeks after you ovulate.

I O'd on the 21st and my EDD is Dec 12th, so that would put yours at Dec 18th

So let me ask this...why are EDD taken from the first day of last period? You haven't even TTC yet...you haven't O'ed...how does that count? I count from the O date...

I believe it's because most women have no idea of when they actually O. The first day of a woman's cycle is much easier for them to track.

They do this because a lot more women know about when their last period started than know when they ovulated. For those actually TTC you can do it by ovulation and it will be more accurate, but for the jane doe who just fell pregnant they assume 28 day cycle, ovulate on day 14, 40 weeks from LMP. (though the 40 week number was just picked because it is a nice round number around how long most women take. The average for first and second time moms is actually greater than 40 weeks, iirc)

I really like that answer. I know that I O'ed on that day so I'm sticking with that, even though nobody else agree's LOL! Thank you for all the answers...I just had a "duh" moment!!!!

Yep I always O on day 18 of my cycle instead of the 'typical' day 14, so if I went by my first cycle date my EDD would be 4 days off.
So I just count back 14 days from my O date and use that as my official first cycle day.

Everyone already answered for you but I just wanted to tell you taht I O 3 weeks after the start of my period so I should be due a week later than the charts tell me. However it has never made a difference on when I deliver. I have had babies at 40 weeks 1 day, 39 weeks, and 39 weeks 6 days. Your baby will come when it's ready.
