What kind of breakfast foods do your DC eat?

Thread Starter
There is a great thread about what is on your toddler's snack tray. I am feeling uncreative and am hoping we can make a breakfast for the young child (3ish) list. If DH could make it or I could the night before, even better 'cause then I get to sleep in.

I make a smoothie for my son every morning.

I remember when I was a kiddo, I just wasn't hungry in the morning and actually would feel nauseous if I did eat, and my son has those same tendencies.

So, in order to give my son some good nutrition before he heads out to school I do throw in the blender some strawberries, a banana, vanilla yogurt and a touch of honey with a splash of vanilla soy milk and whirl for about 30 seconds. He drinks it while waiting for the bus.

AND says I'm the best mom in the 'biz! LOL

My kids usually eat pancakes (i make from scratch with sour dough starter) and strawberries, orange slices, grapes, bananas, or blueberries whatever fruit I have on hand.

Sometimes they eat scrambled eggs and oatmeal.

Sometimes a bagel slice with peanut butter, if they are not feeling particularly hungry.

I try to send them off to school after having something nutritious.

Waffles
pancakes
french toast
fried or scrambled eggs and toast
oatmeal
cereal
bagels

I make the waffles, pancakes and french toast in big batches on the weekends and freeze. Just toast for a minute and they're ready to go.

My kids like scrambled eggs with cheese melted on top, cereal and I love a seeded bagel toasted with swiss cheese melted on top in the broiler! Oh, I also make french toast sticks and freeze those and the kids alll really like them.

I would love this recipe, pretty please! :

My DS eats "SuperPorridge," which I make from quinoa, millet, oats, sometimes lentils, sometimes brown rice, wheat germ, flax seed, and molasses. I mix half a banana and some milk or soymilk into when I serve it. He eats that first thing every morning, and then often has "second breakfast" if he's around (not at preschool) of whatever I'm eating for breakfast -- since I tend to eat much later.

DD eats either toast with jam, oatmeal, a bagel, a banana, pancakes or eggs -- usually it's eggs, but she sometimes has a "snack" of something easier (banana, some other fruit) first thing before I get it together to actually cook the eggs :

On the weekends I make big brunches, usually -- pancakes or waffles, a quiche or omelets and fried potatoes, an oven pancake or some kind of casserole. And bacon or sausage occasionally. But that's later, way after the kids eat their "first breakfast."

Sometimes we really like PB&J on toast for breakfast, too.

Well, right now we're trying to use up the last of our "convenience foods" left over from me WOHing. (I'm a SAHM as of today!) But here's what I plan to make for breakfast when all the junky stuff is gone:

-oatmeal with a variety of things added to it
-scrambled or fried eggs with toast or homemade biscuits
-homemade granola
-homemade pancakes, waffles, or French toast
-skillet potatoes with peppers & onions
-omelets with veggies & cheese
-breakfast burritos with eggs, cheese & salsa
-bagels with cream cheese
-English muffins with fruit preserves, or homemade "egg McMuffins"
-homemade muffins with various chopped fruits added

And on really rushed mornings, Kashi cereal with fruit.

Logan is 2.5 and has a few breakfasts that he really likes:

Oatmeal with maple syrup & raisins mixed in
Cup of soymilk
Sliced up orange

Small bowl of soy yogurt
1 pancake or waffle (made ahead, frozen, toasted)
cup of orange juice

1 bagel toasted with Earth Balance (soy margarine)
Small bowl of fruit
Cup of soy milk or juice

I try to include 3 food groups at each meal and 2 at each snack if possible.

Logan is allergic to dairy and hates eggs and meat so his diet is essentially vegan except for honey.

All time favorite around here: crepes with maple syrup

Other things:

Oatmeal with peanut butter and/or ground flax mixed in
Pancakes (homemade)
Cereal and milk
Donuts (only on saturdays )

I'm in awe of all of you mammas that can get yourselves together enough in the mornings to actually cook something.

Same breakfast every day:
bowl of oatmeal
one or two (or three!) hard boiled eggs
a buttermilk biscuit

Occasionally we have some ham with that, as well.

My 3 yo eats .... well, lots ... many times I take her to come to breakfast at school w/ my ds since he gets free meals. They serve the USDA regulation stuff... egg and meat burrito wraps or cereal, or something like waffle stix with sausages... or "breakfast dogs" which are like corn dogs but with sausage and pancake instead of hot dog with cornbread... plus fruit and milk.

But when we eat at home, lately it's been pretty basic ~ a scrambled egg with a slice of home-made bread or some porridge (rice and oats, slow-cooked) and milk.

To be honest, I'd love to NOT cook in the mornings, because I like cereal a lot, but it's just so expensive.

I can't stand cereal, so that's why I cook. Although, to be honest, frequently my toddler eats an easy snack early in the morning (usually cereal--he likes it ), then we eat a "real" breakfast mid morning.

We in Middle Earth call that "Second Breakfast."

:

and to that:

grits/cornmeal (and refried when day-old)
scrambled tofu on the rare occasion
hashbrowns
granola
english muffins w/PB
toast w/PB and fruit
fruit soup
breakfast burritos (either with hashbrowns or with PB or VCO and fruit)

generally I set out fruit and sometimes nuts for them to eat early on so I can get some more zzs.

What is fruit soup, pray tell?
whatever varieties of fruit you have (we like a basic mix of peach, pear, apricot, cherries, blueberries, plums and bananas) tossed in a big pot with some juice concentrate and water, heated up and either served straight or thickened with rice flour to make a thicker soup. goes well over PB and toast.

eta: but the bananas get added last thing always, otherwise they disintegrate.

Our standard for the past few months:
bacon, fried or scrambled eggs (cheese in the scrambled), sliced avacado, fresh fruit, small slice of toast with butter and homemade jam

sometimes we get on an oatmeal kick:
steel cut oats with raw cream, a pat of butter and a small spoon of coconut oil, chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, etc) fresh sliced fruit or dried fruit, sometimes ground flax seed.....

If we are in a big hurry we'll just have toast with nut butter and sliced fresh fruit.

on the weekends I sometimes make waffles with eggs and bacon or sausage
OR egg casserole that has loads of cheese

we usually have a 'snack' first thing when we get up- some dehydrated or dried fruits (like the JT stuff...) with some organic O's or sprinkled on yogurt with granola then an hour or so later I'll make a 'real' breakfast/brunch.

I like to sip coffee for a bit before I eat a bigger meal but I want to be sure DD gets some food right away
