DD is turning 5 next month. She wants a "princess" party. I'd like to do a craft and maybe have a tea party, but it's GOT to be Disney free!! Any fun imagination building ideas?

You could cut out crowns from thick paper (like poster board)and let the kids decorate them. You could get some beads for stringing necklaces.

And if you're not into all the disney princess stuff maybe you could figure out a way to incorporate princesses from around the world.

You could cut out paper dolls that the kids could color/decorate.You could put pictures of princess from many cultures on the table for inspiration.

My DD attended a princess tea party recenty - NOT Disney. All this kids were asked to come in their most princess-y dress.

They made crowns, ready a couple of princess story books, had a tea party and decorated little felt bags using glue and felt cutouts.

She had a great time

What about making some jewelry(bracelets or necklaces) with their names (you can buy beads with letters in the craft store). Wooden beads and waxed cotton cord or elstic cord would look very nice with it. I did them with kids in one fair and even boys liked them.

I have two DDs, so I have had several princess parties. For DD1's 5th bday I did the name bracelet thing. I bought letter beads at hobby lobby & had their name in a bag for them ready to go with assorted pastel colored beads. I also had a piece of stretchy jewelry string with a bead tied to one end of it. That allowed them to string the beads as they wished, then I came along & tied it in a knot & cut the excess. They really enjoyed it. Last year she had a tea party theme. I had a bunch of thrifted silk flowers & cheap hats. They glued flowers in as they liked & made themselves "bonnets".

We are doing a princess party (much to my silent dispair) and as a compromise we are doing the Strawberry Shortcake princess theme. There are plates, napkins, cups, etc all with this theme that can be bought off of ebay.

I also bought pink organza with the silver starburst sparkles on them to make the gift bags.

To put in each gift bags, I got some pink, sequined star wands , pink glittery notebooks that I will embellish with generic princess crown stickers , some pink bath bombs that I will individually wrap, strawberry shortcake princess stickers and some strawberry shortcake grooming sets.

Wands: Use a dowel rod and stryofoam star glued on top, add beads, ribbons, glitter, jewles etc.

Glitter gel: vaseline, body grade glitter (in soap area of most craft stores), scent and color in tubs (also availabel in craft stores)

Flip Flops: dollar stores sells plain ones, add flowers, beads with glue

I did a princess party theme. I bought a ton of silver plastic table cloths and drew brinks on them in black hung them all around the room to give a castle look. I also put a red carpet at the front door with more of the table cloths hung up. I used tons of streamers and balllons. I also made flags. It was a real princess theme. It was pretty cool but it took tons and tons of time to make
