Permanent marker on counter...

How do I get permanent marker off my countertop?
Sol-U-Mel will get that out indefinitely. It got green permanent marker out of DS's brand new brand new bright red shirt (on the first day he wore it, of course) without ruining the red color. I'm not subscribing to this thread; so PM me if you have questions.

I've had good luck using rubbing alcohol to get ink off hard surfaces. It can damage some finishes so spot test it in a hidden corner first.

Not necessarily the most "green" solution, but a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser will probably get it right off. I have one that I use very judiciously- I figure that using it sparingly is more eco-friendly than having to repaint walls and replace counters with crayons and ink all over them!

A bit more labor intensive, but the results pan out more quickly in the end . . . call the marker manufacturer. Ask what the best solvent would be for the marker + the material in question.

It may be alcohol or goo gone. Or you might need an abrasive like mr. clean magic eraser (microabrasive, so don't go willy nilly crazy with it).

Go to a specialized paint shop or contractor's supply shop. Ask for cupran special high performance paint remover for hands, made by Stockhausen. That stuff will get leather dye out of a white teeshirt, which means it can probably get anything out of anything. (It has yet to not work around here, on any laundry, surface or human application) Also, there's no nasty solvent smell. And yes, it works for getting permanent marker off of white countertops entirely. Not that I would know, or anything. :

I can't recommend it enough.

I have heard that nail polish remover will take permanant marker off of hard surfaces. You may want to test a small area to be sure it wont damage your particular surface.

:

Just be SUPER careful with rubbing alcohol around kids-- a small amount ingested internally can kill a child.

Try toothpaste (paste, not gel). It works well on non-porous surfaces. Small circular moves.

I've also heard that a dry erase marker will work. Go over the mark with a dry erase and wipe it off right away.

Rubbing alcohol. If it still wont' get it out, use a sugar cube to rub the alcohol in.

I had dd at work once and she colored on my boss's desk with permanent marker.

Magic Erasers can take the top layer of countertop finish off so be very careful, if you have stone (manufactured or natural) or formica.

I know alcohol will work, my couch looks fine after someone decided it needed black polka dots everywhere. I would do a spot test first to make sure it doesn't damage anything though.
