It's just a couple of dish rags, but it's a start!! I'm proud of myself for learning how to bind off and how to pick up dropped stitches .

Please, let's keep the laughter to a minimum!

yeah! you did a great job!!

dish cloths are great first projects - much better than a scarf. by the time you get finished with your first scarf, you never want to knit again

try a dish cloth on the diagonal now, it's a good way to practice increasing and decreasing (ETA: pattern with instructions)

My first was a dishcloth too. Oh man, it was horrid.

Yours look great!

I think thats great! You've inspired me to give it a whirl!....do you mind sharing your pattern for the rainbow one? I don't yet understand what stitches make which pattern (ex. the little v's).

BTW my first crocheted washcloth was deplorable!

Well, I didn't use a pattern for either. For the rainbow one, I just cast on about 40 stitches, then used the stockinette stitch, which is knit the first row, purl the next, & repeat until the end. Then bind off, & weave your thread ends in & trim. Then you're done!

For the tan one, I cast on about 30-35 (I don't remember), and knit every row. It's really easy!

My sister gave it to me, it was the Lily Sugar & Cream worsted weight cotton yarn in Rainbow Bright Ombre. It's pretty cheap per ball; at Joann's it was like $1.25 per ball, and that would make one very large or 2 smaller dish cloths. I only got part of the ball though.

here's another dishcloth for you that's a favorite. it appeared in the book mason-dixon knitting! It will help you understand what happens when you slip a stitch (remember to slip them purl wise -t hat is, insert your needle as if to purl, but don't purl the stitch, just move it to the other needle)

ballband
dish cloth

My first knitted objects were garter stitch dish cloths. I made them when I was in high school, and I was so proud to use them when I moved out. I use hand knit dish cloths exclusively now, they are the best!
