That's what I was thinking. But I'm sure in this day and time kids would just be bored with your average fun instruments like that had when we were in school. These teachers almost have to put themselves at the kids level in school these days to keep their attention. That's sad to me in some ways that people would accept that. Keep games and toys at home and learning in school if that is where it is supposed to be happening at.

Hm - see, I always find it reassuring to see how much my daughter and her friends still enjoy the same songs, fairy tales, simple games and crafts that have been around for donkey's years. I think that sometimes adults psych themselves out with how 'different' kids are now that only video games and tv and so on can keep their attention.

Totally off-topic, but at my daughter's school they couldn't afford new outdoor play equipment, so they re-freshed the hopscotch and foursquare paint and so on on the playground, then the principal spent time with each class at recess, teaching them how to play old-fashioned recess games. They make balls, hopscotch stones and chalk available, and the kids are happy as clams.

I just find it really underestimates kids to figure that they 'need' flashing lights and things that go ping to be interested in stuff (not commenting about anyone here particularly, but this perspective).

4 square is *the* game at my ds' school. lol There are oodles of squares painted all over the place. lol I also love watching the kids jump rope. The school seems to own about 100 jump ropes of all sizes. That stuff is fun!

Hey, the link I posted from Salon shows that because of Guitar Hero, guitar teachers are finding themselves more busy that ever...because of GH. That link is great, btw.

You peeps are sounding old you know. "In my day, all we had for instruments was a triangle, not all these these fancy e-lectronic instruments you kids have now, and we liked it! I remember having to walk for miles in the snow to school with my beloved tamborine in my book bag!"

I do not know a whole lot about the game, but I would talk to the teacher and see how it was being used and the benefits of it.
