Do I HAVE to top stitch all the time?!?!?! AUGH!!!!!

I am really really hating to top stitch. I have noticed that some of the dipes I bought with my last baby does not have top stitch. Would you always want top stitch when buying dipes? My machine is a really old one inherited from my grandmother-in-law, I really don't want to buy one since it works fine except when doing top stitching or sewing thick layers of fabrics like on this diaper I made: (second and third pics)

The thread in the bobbin gets lose and stuck everytime I am doing ts and/or sewing velcro. Would I need to change the needle? But if I do, do I have to change it back for regular sewing?

I have to be honest, this is my 5th diaper ever, I have no experience in sewing so I am sorry if I am asking dumb questions. Can I just skip the ts if I want to make dipes for sale?

topstitching is not always necesary, and often it depends on the pattern and materials you are using. some patterns are written with no topstitching, others assume you will do it. for selling diapers, you will need to be sure that what you do is acceptable with8in the licensing agreement, if you use a ready pattern, and if you make your own pattern, you do what feels/looks good to yyou.

I've not used a pattern or made a diaper that I didn't feel needed top-stitching-- the wings always need it, imo, it looks neater, makes a cleaner looking dipe/cover. It helps keep the two layers in place in my experience. Unless it's sergered or has FOE, I'd say it's important.

Definitely get new needles and if you have a 1/4 inch foot, it really helps with topstitching. You could also just topstitch the front, back and wings, leaving the elastic casings alone. Some mamas prefer it that way...

I don't like topstitching - so I very rarely do it. And I've made lots of diapers. Here's a sample. I don't think a single one of those is topstitched. And they've all worked great
Adding a thought: It might be well worth the money to have the machine tuned up at the local sewing shop.

oh goodie!!!! okay so I may just tt the front and back since I might be using velcro or snaps that will help to keep the wings in place.

Thank you I don't topstitch the front or back - but you sure can. It does look nice.
