Hi, anyone else out there in our DDC planning on homebirthing?

I have had homebirths for all three DC, and of course am planning it for this one as well!

Count me in. My daughter was born at home. Barring unforeseen circumstances, I want this one to be as well.

I'm jealous...this will be my first birth and have planning on a homebirth for as long as I can remember thinking about it. Unfortunately, we live 10 km further from the midwives than they allow for homebirth so I have to be in hospital. I'm so disappointed

I'm trying to weasel my way into one anyway but I don't think it's going to fly. They're really strict.

Julia, I hope you can get something worked out!

I am planning on my 3rd homebirth. DD was born in the hospital, but both DS's were born at home.

I'm also planning on having another waterbirth, I did that with DS2 (had planned it with DS1 but the tub we borrowed sprang a big leak and we didn't have time to replace it) and LOVED it.

With both the boys I had pretty fast labors (3-3 1/2 hrs each), so I will plan on starting to fill the tub as soon as I start.

I actually made it into the water just as I started pushing, but I'd love to be able to soak a bit with this one; it's so relaxing!

We are! DS was born in the water at a birth center. I'll use the same midwife only she'll come to my house. My friend convinced me that it was worth it to get an actual birth tub rather than just use my own bathtub. So I'll have to look into that.

This will be our 3rd home-water birth!!!!!

DH and DD caught the last baby and I'm hoping for the same to happen this time (we had an amazing mw).

I, too, have very fast (crazy INTESNSE) labors. 3 hours with the first, and 2 hours 20 min with the second. The mw walked in 9 mins before ds was born, I had already been pushing for maybe 10 mins. I have to admit I'm scared I'll be alone with the kids when this one is born! Better that than in the car on the way to the hosp though!

I fill and empty the tub every day starting about 3 weeks before my due date... I CANNOT go into labor without my warm watery refuge!

Planning our first homebirth here! I've gone natural with both, and the last one, barely made it to the hospital to deliver. I wound up being the one to "catch", him, so we figured why not just plan it at home? So excited and can't wait for my first appointment in two weeks!!!!

We are planning either a homebirth or at the birthing center. I don't want any drugs and I've heard that water births are so wonderful. The only thing that scares me not going to a hospital is that I have a heart problem(it hasn't acted up in about a year and a half luckily) and I'm thinking what if it starts up in the middle of delivery. We might not have a choice in the matter being as though my DH's insurance might not cover this baby. We just got married March 14, 2008...and insurance doesn't kick in until today.

Has anyone had the same insurance situation happen to them? Or know of anyone? Any advise...or stories...

Planning my first homebirth and waterbirth in my NYC apt. My daughter was born in the hospital - was supposed to be in-hopsital birth center but didn't work out. Wasn't a terrible experience, but not what I wanted, and I can't even imagine having to go back to it. We started with wanting a midwife instead of OB and trying the in-hospital birth center. Then we ruled that out b/c it seemed too likely they'd transfer me and still too hospital based. Then we went to the freestanding birth center, but we decided that anything they could do there they could bring to my home with all the comfort and freedom of home and a lower transfer rate. I have 2 appointments with homebirth midwives who both seem great. I couldn't be more excited. So far, everyone (mom, mil, friends) have been very supportive. My partner and his sister were both born at home so that helps. And my mom is a nurse who is VERY BIG on "nursing models of care" so she is supportive of midwives.

planning my first home birth

both DDs were totally natural, unmedicated births, and super-fast labors. DD1 was in a hospital; DD2 was in a free-standing birth center just over a mile from my house -- but we barely got there in time because my labor was just over one hour long!!

the midwife i saw last week agreed that it is highly unlikely i could get anywhere in time again, if i actually have to leave the house during labor

I am pregnant for the 1st time and looking into a homebirth. Since I've never labored before I am nervous about it, because I don't know what to expect. The closest birthing center is 60 miles away, it's a great place, I just don't know if I want to be commuting to all of my prenatal appts, and labor! Oh where do I start??

We're hoping for a homebirth too. Unfortunately, midwifery is really new (like, only a few months old!) in our territory, and I haven't been able to pin down any verifiable info that homebirth is actually legal here! We're considering a UC, but we'll just see how it goes, I guess. I really, really, really don't want a typical hospital birth. If there are any indications that "help" might be needed and if we can get in as midwifery clients, I would seriously consider a hospital birth. Hopefully we have the opportunity to make these decisions.

UC'ing here.....

Have done it before and see no reason to not do it again!

Bad experience here renting a complicated birth tub...we got it and one of the parts was missing. The main reason why I was planning on doing a waterbirth that second time was to prevent tearing...and irony was I didn't tear so that helped!

With my last kiddo I birthed in our large garden tub. Worked GREAT! The clean up that way is fantastic. What we did, after the baby was born and we relaxed for a little while we emptied out the water and I birthed the placenta in the tub. Then, they took the shower sprayer from the shower next to the tub and hosed me down, I went and took a shower right away. All they did afterwards is rinse everything down the drain, and then quickly cleaned the tub.

If you don't have a large tub I do have some friends who have used a particular fishie tub....it's really big and they have raved about that one. And, I think they put pillows underneath it, etc. to make it super comfy before they filled it. I don't know if I saved the link, but someone here is bought to know it!

We have the fishy tub, the large hexagonal one, and just love it. It gave me all the room I needed. I was submersed as much as I wanted and could totally stretch out. Highly recommend it!!!

Another homebirther here! I had my first DD unmedicated at a hospital. I loved my MW but we moved states so I couldn't use her for #2. For my second DD I had her here at home in a tub. It was great!

We are planning another homebirth as well. We are also going to be moving so it pretty much depends on if I can find a midwife I like there or if one of my midwife friends can come. If not, I may just UC. I had a rough experience with the midwife I had for my sons birth and it left me feeling very violated and betrayed. This time around I am making sure 100% that who ever I choose I am truly comfortable with and can trust that she will treat me and my family with respect. If that person cannot be found, I will UC, but it's not my first choice.
