December 2008 Homebirthers? - Page 2

I am planning a homebirth. My first four babies were born in the hospital, 3 of them unmedicated, then the last was an unecessarian. After that awful experience I decided to homebirth the next two. I planned on the seventh being at home as well but due to a placental abruption I ended up as a emergency csection. I am planning to homebirth this baby. My MW was with me for the last three births, including the csection, so we have a great relationship. I trust that I will have an uncomplicated HBAC this time around!

I have that one too! I LOVED it, and would also highly recommend it!

We will be using it again as long as it doesn't have any leaks from storing...or unless we decide to use it for the kids this summer

I'll try to find a link, I had it on my old PC but it died, taking all my links with it

ETA: Found it! Here you go Mine has blue instead of white on the top, but it's the same design.

Hi my name is Jen and I'm planning a homebirth in Dec. 08 This will be a first for me since I had both dd's in a hospital with epi's. The major reason I am doing it is because our new ins. has a $5000.00 maternity deductible and a homebirth will be tons cheaper. But I also feel that ending my pregnancy with an all natural homebirth will be so empowering.

I am reading tons of books about it because I want to go into this experience with only positive vibes and confidence. I'm kind of nervous to tell my family and friends about doing this, because I know they will be nothing but negative and only ever ask about the "what-if's". They dont know ANYTHING about homebirth or the safety of using midwives. My plan know is to tell them to watch "the business of being born" then come talk to me about it.

I wish everyone here a happy and uneventful 9 months!!!!

Yep, I just found out I was pregnant yesterday, and I will definitely (barring emergencies) be having another homebirth (this is baby #3 for me, homebirth #2).

I am planning another home birth. We had to transfer w/ds1 due to positoning issue but managed to still have a vaginal birth with the vacuum suction. It was a good experience, i felt really empowered, even though I didn't get the original outcome that I desired.
The other 2 were born at home in the water. We used the same octogonal fishy tub and I love it. It is big enough for dh to get in with me (the kids took turns also).
We have had the same midwife w/ all of our kiddos so we will be using her again. I have my first appointment scheduled the first week in June.

So, the midwife here (a solo) is going to be off call and out of town from Dec 15 - Jan 15. I'm due Dec 22. I guess going to Jan 16 is not impossible, but I would really rather not entertain that possibility!
She's doing all my pre and post-natal care, but I will have to make decisions about birth place in terms of hospital with no midwife vs UC. I have always thought I was comfortable with a UC, but as the reality sets in, I find that I am a bit nervous. Last night I had a nightmare about a cord prolapse with simultaneous pph, which I'm pretty sure is impossible in reality. In any case, my subconscience is definitely thinking about such things. Such a change from my first year of midwifery studies when I regularly had extremely vivid and accurate dreams about catching babies with shoulder dystocia, cord prolapse, breech babies, etc. I do live within sight of the hospital - I don't think I'd get help any faster if I actually delivered on sight than at home.
I guess there's time to figure this all out, but I am already mourning the loss of a supported homebirth.

Any UC'ers on here? How did you address your concerns/fears?

Hey Katia, good to see that your pain was "just" a cyst. Man they are painful (as I have one too and had an emergency u/s to rule out an ectopic last monday) but it is definitely reassuring to see that little babe in the uterus.

UC'er here and we can talk as much as you want, we still have a good 8 months to go....

As for your concerns, most of these issues would present themselves much in advance of it causing a problem. For example, cord prolapse is really only a concern in a baby that hasn't engaged or is premature and for that fact you could be labouring at home and still have a cord prolapse even if you intended on having a hospital birth.

Most of your concerns can be illeviated by researching. Come on over to the UC board, there are mamas who have btdt and great resources on all of these issues.

I am planning my first homebirth as well! I'm am really excited about it! My first was a hospital birth that ended up with a 4th degree tear and an anal fistula repair 4 months later (didn't heal right)... I am really excited about the possibility of a "healing" birth this time around even though I'm secretly really terrified of tearing that badly again . It's nice to know the chances of that happening with a homebirth are dramatically reduced and that gives me a lot of peace of mind.

This is my first post in the DDC

I'm Wendy, 28, and we are planning our second home birth (2HBAC!). My last birth (at home) was kind of long but infinitely preferable to my first two hospital births. I'm so looking forward to December!
