I've been feeling a bit down about my birthday because, frankly, I've achieved sod all apart from gestation and lactation in the 10 years since I turned 21, finished university and got married for the first time. Well, I'm still feeling down about it because DH has been too busy to go shopping for me and it's just all been a bit pants: BUT
he wants to buy me a drum carder at Wonderwool next week So that's OK then. I'm just ridiculously, childishly excited about it and I wanted to tell someone who would understand

See, you're "ridiculously, childishly excited" so therefore you MUST not be that old Happy birthday and be sure to really emphasize to him how much you also need more fibers and dye so you can fully utilize your new toy. Afterall, he owes you big time

Helen,

I empathize fully on the feeling that my accomplishments to date seem rather underwhelming compared to what I imagined I might accomplish. However knowing that I will hopefully contribute two compassionate, feminist, all-around good guys to the planet makes me feel better. Besides growing a baby, birthing it, and feeding it entirely from one's body is nothing short of a miracle. You are miraculous several times over. Happy Birthday! (Mine was April 10 and I turned 32).

Now if only I had a dh who felt celebrating my birthday by doing something nice for me just because I would enjoy it was in order I'd be ecstatic.

What a nice, thoughtful dh you have. Enjoy your present.

Thankyou

Desirae, I know my DH is wonderful For various reasons, I haven't felt too confident about my parenting skills recently, plus PPD, so I'm feeling less than confident about my achievements. Happy birthday to you too!
Brandi, I'm buying my own dyes I still have fleece left from last year- River implanted at Wonderwool last year and I felt absolutely sick to my stomach the whole day, then couldn't face the smell of sheep for months so I haven't done too much with the fleeces I bought.

so you can process my fleece for me now

Isn't he great? We made a bit of extra cash on the destash (sold the outgrown kiddies clothes instead of saving them, got rid of a sling I didn't need and wasn't using, stuff like that) so that's going towards it. I'm just hoping I can fix the wobble on my spinning wheel before the weekend :

Happy Birthday Kiz! Yep- we have a bit more cash than usual because of the lovely big grants that student maths teachers get : I'm feeling ridiculously excited about Saturday, though. Lots of lovely ravellers, sheep, food, spinning stuff, what more could you possibly want?

I took my wheel to pieces this morning though : Fingers crossed that it goes back together OK without the clunk and wobble? Otherwise the carder will be waiting another year...

www.wonderwoolwales.co.uk

Kiz, you also need www.woolfest.co.uk in your list of places-what-I-want-to-go. It's closer

Wow. A truly dreamy dh who understands the very specific wishes of a fiber-lovin' wife's heart. Go Steve! And I'm amazed you felt River implant. I've never even heard of that! Funny about the wool smell. Here's to buttery-smooth roving in your future (right? is that what a drum carder does? I'm still a newbie spinner and haven't yet graduated from my Russian drop spindle...)
