how much do you spend per child every year on your curriculum? - Page 2

A LOT less than we spent on their private school tuition. That's $395/per child for 3 kids for 10 mos of private school. We have two kids still in private school now and they will come home next year. We will be saving a lot.

My budget this year is $1500. Given the amount we do for that, it's a bargain.

We don't spend a lot on curriculum - just math which is $20 - $30 per year per kid and reading/phonics/grammar etc (varies per age/stage of each kid)but I would say it runs $20 - $30 per year per kid max. I have spent more in the past, and have a fair amount non-consumables on my shelf - things like a science curriculum, Story of the World etc. and I usually buy those used when I can, even if it is in advance of when I might need them.

I spend far more on activities/lessons, season's passes, books, games, puzzles, manipulatives etc. but it is hard to separate that out from what I would have spent if they were in school.

For us, it's not so much curric, it's supplies and activities. I would say $1500/ yr, total? Not sure. Between art classes, supplies, books, activities, $1500 sounds on the low end. I am adding in summer programming to that. This year the middle two kids are going to camp, and that's $900 right there, They didn't go last year, but they did take archery...which was $200 each.

I don't know. That's an interesting question.

As far as curriculum goes, I'm planning to spend $200/kid this year.

I already posted up above but since then I've purchased some stuff in the last few days for next year. I think I'll end up spending around $1000-$1500 total for all three kids next year! That's just for curriculum. It doesn't count clubs, extra-curricular activities and homeschool groups. It's still a lot better than $395/MONTH! I was spending $1395 per year per child plus lunches and other fees.

Yup...

I can't even hazard a guess but we have everything for whatever mood strikes us.

But yeah, we are probably up in the $2000 + range.

It has been between $200-$400 per year for my dd.

So far for K I've spent $20 on BOB books, we have a $75 zoo membership and a $75 science center membership, and I'll be spending more before the end of summer, probably in the form of a Rainbow Resource order that will be between $150 and $300 (though likely some of that would be toys/games not strictly for school) and a Barnes and Noble trip that will be around $50 for her portion.

We use the library a lot, but some books I just want to own.

None of this reflects money spent on art supplies, paper, etc. or on printouts. And while I plan on using a freely available phonics program, I might also get an online program for DD to supplement it that she really liked the look of. That would be another $60

I'm not sure. This is our first year of homeschooling so it's probably a little more than it will be in the future since I've been finding out which style & curriculums work best with us.

My guess is somewhere between $800-1000.
