the first week postpartum...

I wish i knew more about how i'd feel this first week postpartum. really i educated myself so much about on pregnancy and labor and now both are down and i'm on the other side, with no idea of anything.

I went to the ER yesterday morning because I though my stitches were infected and they were. Let me tell you having an internal exam 5 days PP is no fun, i imagine it was also more invasive than a normal check cuz she was making sure there was nothing left inside of me (!!!!!) and some other stuff. I cried and shook the entire time.
Also I had to leave my daughter at home while at the hosptial because theres an outbreak of Gastro and while I *could* bring her at 4 days old i'm just not willing to take that risk with her. I had NO IDEA how much i would miss her and how my body would ache for her.
I also had no idea how much of a sobbing leaking blob i'd become when i my boobs got engorged and how I feel that my boobs now take over my body.

On a better note i'm taking the antibiotics and i am able to sit for short periods of time on the bed, still no luck on a chair. But its nice to be able to hold Eden instead of just fawning over her while we lay side by side.

i just want cant wait to be feeling good enough to go for a walk.

I don't think you *can* know how it intense those emotions can be until you're right there, y/k? I'm sorry about your stitches, though. That's got to make it 100x more difficult!

I'm glad you're back with your babe now Please get on some probiotics as soon as you can now that you're taking abx. You don't want thrush or worse.

Honestly, my two postpartum recoveries have been SO very different--the first was physically easy and emotionally difficult, and the second was physically difficult and emotionally easy. So, it may be completely different and easier for you next time. Hope you feel better soon!

I'm so sorry
I know how you feel with the stitches deal.
The midwife who sewd me up is so used to dealing with mamas who have epidurals that she didn't adequately numb me- just used topical. Her suturing hurt worse than when the baby crowned!
Then they fell out about 2 days later and I was left with a large open flap that had to be sewn back up on day 4 and I had the sore bottom deal all over again. I was scared to sit for 2 days!
I'm also on antibiotics for what we think was the beginning of mastitis or an abcess. My one breast has scar tissue in it from a procedure I had for a previous infection and when my milk came in it started to give me trouble right away.
Now I'm nervous baby will get thrush. I have to start acidophilous ASAP
You're not alone!!!
Hope you feel better soon!
Hey, are you using frozen witch hazel pads and doing sitz baths?
Both of these things has helped my bottom alot!
Good luck and happy healing mama!
Staring at baby for a while seems to be the best medicine doesn't it?

It gets better! I'm 4 weeks postpartum and feeling great. I went for a walk today (not the first, but just wanted to brag)!

Hang in there.

I find the first month pp always challenging and it is true you don't know how it will be until you are in the thick of it. Are you taking any DHA/fish oil type supplement? They also help stabilize ones mood in addition to giving you fabulous skin and hair!

Big

I feel verrrrry surreal (like I"m in a time warp) and SORE for the first 2 -3 wks. Caedmon turned a month old yesterday and I'm just now starting to feel better. I know that I'll feel like a boob for a long time but that's just how it is. Are you taking any arnica homeopathic. That really helps to keep the soreness and achiness and generally lousy feeling away.

Great nutrition, sunshine, lots of water, and having friends and family to help out can really round out the postpartum experience

thanks for all the responses.
I'm feeling better today. The ABX are kicking in and my boobs are feeling better. I can walk about a tiny bit and i can kinda wear a shirt again. Hurray for small victories.
I will definitely get on probiotics asap, the last thing i need is to have to deal with thrush.
On the brighter side of all this, I am so in love with my daughter it is nuts. I had no idea that it was possible to feel this and it has changed how i see so many things.
