But the book "What to Expect when you are Expecting"
is

just

STOOPID

I feel sorry for the first time moms who read that.
I am also glad i didn't spend money on it! It was a gift.

That is all.

Haha, yeah, "What to Fear When You're Expecting" is one of the funniest and worst books I've ever read. My mom got it for me and put it in my easter basket this year, she was like, "I wasn't sure if you had that one already," and I laughed and said, "No, ma, no I don't have this one, thanks." Haha. Chris and I have had a few good laughs reading through it. I put it in the bathroom, it makes for interesting potty reading, lol!

I feel bad for women who use ONLY this reference book. It's so full of crap. But yeah I think most of the women on this forum will agree that it's not the best reference material for pregnancy!

Yeah, I haven't met anyone who likes it. I've been in thrift stores when I have seen multiple copies lined up. I guess people just can't get rid of those things. I am really NOT into throwing books in the garbage because it's almost sacrilegious to me, but there have got to be enough extra of those around to have a serious bonfire. It's the tone of it that is the worst part, for me.

I was told to use it as my bible when I was pregnant with my first. Let's just say it doesn't make for good outcomes. It's total crap.

I think it is week 8 that all they talk about is miscarriage! How scary is that? I know miscarriage can happen(I have had 2). But the whole chapter? Mention the chances of miscarriage and move on! If I want to read about miscarriage I will buy a book for it!

It is pretty much "what to expect at the hospital" isn't it? "A girlfriend's Guide to pregnancy" is also not high on my list for touting the greatness of planned cesareans.

Oh, and now you all have to say something about the part of the book you find the funniest/scariest/dumbest....

GO!

lol

Funniest? Oral sex is okay, just don't let your partner blow air into your vagina b/c it can cause an embolism.

Darn, I love having air blown into my vagina!

Nothing like a blow dried vagina.

Could you image if someone presented to emerg with that?

"Hi doctor, I think my partner may have accidentally blown some air into my vagina, am I okay?"

Yup, gotta agree. Dumb book! I kind of skimmed it and set it to aside. I won't even lend the piece of crap out to clients.

I have two books that I like. "The Natural Pregnancy Book", Aviva Jill Romm, and "Pregnancy The Natural Way", Zita West.

I just love the back section on everything that could possibly go wrong with you and your baby described in painstaking detail. Thanks.

OK, I am trying not to laugh. I am sure there have been ladies that have gone to ER AFTER reading this book!

I am sticking to The Pregnancy Book by Dr. Sears.
Another book I hate is "Pregnancy Week By Week". Something so 1980's about it.

The only reason I read the damn book is becaue I knew some of my clients read it and I wanted to know where they were coming from...crap crap crap...I feel like I have to undo everything the book said

Hmmm, I have a copy of that one and WTE The First Year somewhere around here. I need to put them where I put my copy of Babywise--in the TRASH!

I hate that book! The doctor's office I used to go to handed that out free to every mom when they got pg. I'm glad I ran away from there as fast as I could! That book is awful!

I also love Dr. Sears' Pregnancy Book. I've been reading it for reference in this pg.

Hahaha, we should be book reviewers or whatever the heck they are called lol. Apparently "What To Expect When You Are Expecting" gets two thumbs way down.....or this: by every one of us.

Census says.....it belongs in the trash!

My midwife recommended Sheila Kitzinger's pregnancy and childbirth book (I'm too lazy to go find the title) and I'm really enjoying it. She also recommended Ina May Gaskin's pregnancy and childbirth book, which, since I'm so enjoying her first recommendation, I've decided to order as well. I have the Sears book, which I find very comforting--there's something very down to earth about the Sears book, as if they're right there patting you on the shoulder and saying "I know, I understand, it's okay".

I read it with my first pregnancy and then threw it away.
