Ruby Elaine is here!

Babe arrived a few days early on April 13th peacefully in a planned homebirth! I had mild contractions since Friday night but didn't really get into the thick of things until Sat night when I lost my mucous plug at 3am and contractions starting coming regularly ev 5 mins...after speaking with my midwife they didn't maintain that consistency but my doula came at 8am and then things were off and running. I laboured for the most part entirely in the birth pool!! I was in love with that thing . Ruby Elaine was born into the water and I was so ecstatic that we were able to have the gentle entry that I had wanted for her into the world. My water never broke and she came out with a perfect knot in her cord...she latched on 20 seconds after her birth and we were over the moon!! What a high, then I had to deliver the placenta, argh...I was such a procrastinator, I had had ENOUGH with pain at that point...but my midwife was very gentle and understanding and I delivered the placenta after a bit of time. I only tore my labia and after the birth we all cuddled in bed and settled in while my wonderful doula made a chicken pasta dish to feast on.

All and all I couldn't have asked for a more perfect expression (well minus the wrenching pain) of the birth I had wanted to create.

Congratulations!!!! I can relate with the not wanting to deal with the placenta. It took me a while to get mine out too and finally I realized that I just have to get it out and give one more dreaded push. So glad when that was over with. Ruby is such a cute name. It was on my girl name list too.
