how far past your due date would you wait?? - Page 2

Popping in from May to say oh geez! This trip is the last thing you need at this stage of pregnancy, a midwife should know better! Wow.

With my DD I went to 41w6d so almost two weeks overdue... she was and is perfectly fine, healthy and alert right from birth and no asthma or any issues. She has thrived since birth.

A due date is just an estimate, yk? I am right now 40w1d and the midwife did a cervical check yesterday to find no dilation and very little effacement. I'm sure I will be late again, quite late. That's pregnancy, man. Some of our bodies just cook 'em a little longer. It sounds like your body is prepping for labour anyway with the painful contrax, like it could happen anytime.

I would go to 42 weeks for sure, and then reconsider. There is no additional risk until that point and then there is an increase but the risk remains small.

Good luck! Sorry your midwife is giving you a trip, that really sucks.

I am glad you are waiting. I had my first babe at 42 weeks and my third babe at 42 weeks 4 days. Both were completely healthy.

Uh... breathing problems are a documented issue with babies that are born too EARLY. I've not heard of babies born between 40-42 weeks having any higher incidence of asthma or any other particular issues.

Maybe if she's used to routinely pulling babies out before they're done, this is where she gets the idea that they have breathing problems?

My son was born at 41+3, and had APGARs of 9 and 9 after a 39-hour labor and a c-section. So, hooey on what your midwife is saying.

Oh, please. Your MW is stressing you out. Stress can interfer with the birthing process. I would stop taking her calls until you're in labor.

Breathing problems, what a joke. You're only 41 wks!!

I'm not in your due date club, but- I would never be induced because I went past my "due date". I would pay close attention to fetal movement and my own intuition, and if needed, would have an U/S to check on the baby, but wouldn't induce simply because I was past my due date. I know someone who went to 45.5 weeks, and her baby was healthy as could be.
