How are the babies doing?

Just wondering what everyone is up to.

Isobel is doing great although I suspect she has reflux. She hiccups constantly and I can hear her spitup and swallow or choke on it frequently during the night. She's also projectile vomited 4 times in the past two weeks. She's also pretty gassy and that makes her a bit cranky. This is all new compared to dd1.

Our last mw appointment was on Thursday (13 days) and she had gained 9.5 oz from her birth weight.

My dh went back to work this morning and so far it hasn't been to bad taking care of a toddler and baby alone.

Here's a pic of my two kiddos.

I'm beginning to think Ellie might have reflux, too. I'll have to mention it to the ped at her appointment on Thursday. I gave her a bit of probiotic today, as she was super-fussy, and she's sleeping now (thank goodness!) for the first time all day.

Baby Isaac is such a sweetie. He sleeps a lot. Yesterday he was gassy but we took him for a car ride in the early evening and then I nursed him and we bounced him for a while on the exercise ball and he slept all night really well. He seems better today.

I've got some pics of dd, ds and our new house that we're getting the keys to in 3 DAYS! Woowoo I'm so excited about finally having some space (like 3X what we have now...).

Limette, what a sweet photo of your cutie pies!

Splath, I watched the whole slide show and was giggling with delight at some of Ellie's facial expressions!

Paphia, adorable kids and nice house... I : the kitchen and the mountains!

If your thinking reflux might be an issue the first thing I would suggest doing is eliminating dairy. The reaction to dairy can mimic reflux in many babies. I'm dairy free and we still seem to have reflux issues starting here, but both my other 2 children had reflux and stomach problems run in my dh's family. Aside from that David is 2 weeks today and looks to be growing well. He goes for a check up on Thursday. He still takes a long time to latch on well with a tiny mouth and recessed chin. I'm still getting over a yeast and thrush infection, but he thankfully hasn't shown any signs of thrush problems.

Wallace is doing well except that he won't latch.
I'm BFAR so I kept worrying about bfing and how it would work for me--never dreamed the bigger issue would be ds' unwillingness to latch!

Other than that he's a dream--doing well and adorable...

We are up all night and sleeping during the day. I can't rouse him for ANYTHING. Even cool rags. This kid is a champion sleeper. He doesn't feed for very long either, often but not long - again, he falls asleep. At least my nipples have started to heal after getting cracked and bleeding. For the most part he is great. DH went back to work today (DS is 13 days old) and on Sunday he goes out of town until Friday. I am not thrilled and actually kind of freaking out about being alone with the baby and 2 dogs. I have no experience with kids so this is really a trial by fire.

We have reflux issues here too. I cannot ever lay Kalum flat or you hear/see breastmilk coming up and him swallowing to keep it down (or else it comes up his nose ) He is also gassy too. I cannot BF lying down either because of this so we spend a lot of time snuggling upright on the couch in the wee hours. I think I am going to have my chiro adjust him to see if that makes a difference.

Caleb poots like it is his job. Very stinky, but he is always flashing that gassy smile.
He is such a sweet boy.
Last time we checked, at his 3 week appointment, he was 21 inches and 7.7 lbs.
He'll be 4 weeks tomorrow!

For all of you mamas of gassy/refluxy babies, have you checked out Alpacka Wacka's post on probiotics? It might be worth it.

Baby Levi's doing well
Doesn't really have a schedule yet.
He's nursing ALL THE TIME!!! and is starting to sleep a little better now. He sleeps right on mommies chest though... I've actually caught a little break this morning and have been lucky enough to have him catching some winks in the swing
Starting to get a little better with changing time (not freaking out as much), but he sure does like to dirty up a clean diaper! As soon as I put a fresh one on the kid starts fartin it up!
Uh oh! He's a stirrin....

DS is 3 weeks old now. At his 2 week appointment, he was up to 9 lb 4 oz (was 8 lb 14 oz at birth), so I wouldn't be surprised if he's pushing 10 lb now. I think he will be outgrowing his newborn diapers and 0-3 month clothes soon. He's starting to wake up more and get a little more cranky about things, but he's still so much more laid-back than DD was at this age, so I think we're handling it well. He is an amazing nurser--efficient, can nurse lying down, and rarely spits up. He is incredibly sensitive to being wet, so it feels like I'm changing diapers every 20 minutes, LOL.

Yesterday was my first day home alone all day with both children, and it went surprisingly well. I kept the house moderately clean, got a lot of chores done, got all three of us bathed and dressed, and managed to play with DD during DS's naps.

When DH got home from work, he took DD to the playground while I took DS with me to my LLL's monthly Mom's Night Out at a restaurant. It was weird to seriously NIP (nurse in public) for the first time. I mean, I NIPed some with DD, but it was always in a quiet, out-of-the way spot. DS and I were in the middle of a bunch of people at the restaurant. It went ok because the other restaurant goers were smiling and oohing at DS, but I guess I'm always on edge and expecting people to give me a hard time.

Katie was three weeks old yesterday. It goes so freakin' FAST! SOB! She's doing very well. We've cut our viagra doseage in half-she just gets it twice a day now, and Friday we cut it to once a day. We have an appointment in mid-May for an electrocardiogram to double check things out, but I'm confident she's A-OKAY.

As I've posted elsewhere, probiotics have made her a much less fussy baby. We have also discovered the joys of a swing. This kid LOVES to swing-a complete 180 from my first DD. She's a very opinionated little girl- grunty as all get out about things, but slow to cry. She gets so excited about nursing though that she's pinching and pulling at my breast-so much so she can pull the nip right out of her mouth. We're gonna have to find ways to nip that in the bud-or life won't be so fun 6 months from now! She has a definite preference for nursing on the left side, and sometimes still has a hard time latching because she just doesn't seem to realize the nip is in her mouth (SO strange!) but we're doing okay. Our nights vary in the amount of sleep we get, but overall, we're pretty well rested parents for having a newborn.

Overall, life is so wonderful. I love my family!

Glad to see everyone is doing well. I don't think Izzy's reflux is a result of dairy because I rarely, rarely eat dairy products. I have a midwife appt tomorrow so I'll see what they have to say.

I'm pretty sure she's going through a growth spurt. Starting yesterday she has wanted to nurse non stop all day long. The problem is that she projectile vomits if she does that so I have to limit her to one session per hour. She is pretty cranky in between.

It's funny how different babies are. My first lived attached to my boob for pretty much the first year. No spit up, no projectile vomiting, no problems. This one is a noisy, gassy, grunting, refluxer who needs to be kept upright most of the day.

It'll be interesting to see how her personality compares to her sister as she gets older.

Is anyone else still bleeding. My bleeding stopped after I started taking antibiotics for a uterine infection (over a week ago) but for the past couple of days, around once a day I get a gush of red blood and then it stops til the next gush.

Normal or no?

Trevor is doing pretty good!! He is SUCH a calm baby!! We are still working on his latch issues but we are getting through it... thanks especially to Anna for making me little cell phone videos of how to latch him on and suggesting a nipple shield!!! Hopefully we have his latch down nice and solid soon... that would make things a LOT easier!!

I've really tapered off in the bleeding department. I'm down to a few gushes of light brown fluid a day, and I've been on ABX for almost two weeks. That's pretty interesting that you started bleeding again!

My probiotics should be here today I think her reflux could be due to a dairy allergy though, as dairy is a pretty big part of my diet. I've cut it out for the past 2 days, so we'll see if it makes a difference. It's hard to find something to eat though, as I rely on things like string cheese and cottage cheese for snacks, and tend to put cheese on everything I make for dinner, too...
