Zoloft and Milk Supply

I've been dealing with PPD since my 3 year old was born...after struggling with the medication decision all this time I finally started Zoloft on Thursday.

I'm just wondering -- has anyone noticed their milk supply decreasing while taking Zoloft? Or is it just my imagination?? I'm breastfeeding my 9 week old and I really think I've noticed a decrease in my supply in the last few days.

Could be a growth spurt, I guess but it sure did seem to coincide with the medicine perfectly. Just wondering...I did a google search and all I found was a couple other people saying they had noticed the same thing but no official studies or anything.

NO. My milk supply is just fine. I have a 5 month old 21 lb. boy who is exclusively nursing. He is getting lots.

I took it for a while and noticed a slight drop in supply, but it wasnt drastic. It was totally an afterthought that I figured it out too... so, who knows? I didnt have to wean or anything severe!

Thanks! So maybe it's not my imagination.

I found (strangely) that zoloft seemed to have a dehydrating effect on me. Once I started paying attention to my water intake, my supply seemed to re-regulate.

HTH!

I could certainly stand to drink more water...I'll work on that.

I took zoloft while my dd was in the NICU and I had absolutely no supply problems. The nurses actually said I had the best supply they'd ever seen.

I also took Zoloft without any supply problems. My baby was exclusively breastfed for 8 1/2 months.

Good luck!

No. I started on zoloft when DD was 9 months old, and she nursed until ~20 months, no problem.

You're also nearing the point where your supply will naturally self-regulate, so keep that in mind as well. I hope you feel better soon!

I took it the whole pregnancy but my supply is fine. She is 10 months old and really doesn't eat much babyfood or tablefood and she is about 19lbs.

I just started and haven't noticed a difference in my supply.

I also feel dehydrated/dry mouth when I take it so I just have to make sure I drink tons of water.

I started it two days ago and have also felt it is causing a slight decrease in supply. . . it's worrisome, s my supply is tenuous at best. . .

I think Dr. Hale has new suggestions on the use of Zoloft and bfing....any other mamas have more info on this? I could go digging if no one else has it at there finger tips...

I would say no. I have been on Zoloft since my DD was born in November of 06. And she is still nursing. I also checked high and low, every resource I could, and it appears to be okay to use while BF if you need it. And some of us just do :-)
