Any advice out there?????

DS is in kindergarten. Lately he is having issues with goofing off in the classroom. Giggling with friends, making faces, throwing items, making funny annoying noises, etc. His teacher(who is fantastic)does try to help him with these issues. However lately he is rude to her and ignores her suggestions. This often then results in her being unable to teach the other kids b/c she is dealing with him. He then goes to the "discipline" area in the building for a bit of time away from the classroom. I have no problem with what the teacher does and what the policy is for behavior at his school. I love the school. My question is: what can I say to him to help him with this issue?? Any thoughts for helping with the "clowning". He is almost 6.

A lot of this is very normal at this age. Do you know how many times I redirected my own kinder class today? But on the other hand it is disruptive and needs to stop. My son is having the same issues in preschool. I know that his stem from sensory processing issues, but I also know I need to get him under control. We started a simple behavior contract. I split his 1/2 day up into 4 sections and there are three smiley face choices. Caleb and I set three goals. He is to not touch others, not throw objects, and stop when the teacher asks him. We kept it very simple. Every 45 minutes Caleb and the teacher circle the face that correponds to his behavior. (smiley, so-so, sad) Caleb earns quarters based on how many smiley faces he earns. He has to pay me for every sad face.

So far it is working. It is made it easier for Caleb to keep focus and to have a chance to redem himself.

I use a checklist similar to this for a child in my classroom and it works quite well and is not hard to do. So from a parent and a teacher's perspective it works.

Thanks for your thoughts. His teacher has used a sticker chart and now it's just not doing it anymore...I know we need to put our heads together again...it was a great initial chart but now he's not even getting 1 sticker
