Does cotton batting work in diapers?

I made a quilt w/ org. cotton batting. There is some left over and I was wondering if it would work for a diaper liner sorta thing? I would cover it of course.... but would it work? Or would it get all lumpy in the wash? Any experience w/ cotton batting for diaper soakers?

I've used cotton batting in training pants for years and love it. It doesn't hold onto the moisture very well, but it absorbs super fast so it's good as the layer right under the lining with something with a little more holding strength (I use Burley Terry) underneath. I use 2 layers of Warm 'N Natural in an hourglass shape and zig-zag it all around to the lining. It's needle punched and only has to be quilted every 10", so there's no problem with bunching or shredding.
