You've got to be kidding me

Ooh, I'm so excited -- I finally have a "rude relative" story! Mine are usually so darned considerate that I can't participate in the snarky threads.

So my mom called last night to tell me that my cousin (who is a very immature 18 years old and is waaaay mentally/emotionally draining to be around) asked if she could come with my mom (an 8-hour drive) when my mom comes down for the baby's birth and stays for a week to help out. My mom said that she couldn't even stop to formulate a nice-sounding answer, she just blurted out "No!" And then they visited a while longer and my cousin asked again!! And again my mom just said, "No!" and finally that was the end of the discussion.

I figure if my cousin is going to have the audacity to make such a ridiculous request, then she better have a thick enough skin to deal with the blunt answer! And thank goodness for my no-nonsense mom!

Good for your mom!! Thats awesome that you didn't have to get involved there. Your cousin is probably way too young, and as you mention, immature, to realize that people may not *always* want to be around her, or the exact intimacy you need to share with people around you after birth, with breastfeeding and fluids and all. People just think of cute babies and quit using their brains..

Exactly -- I'm sure that's all that crossed her mind: "Ooooh, cute, tiny baby -- I wanna come!!" DH and I have been joking about how it would be for her to be in the delivery room -- "Move, Mr. Limabean -- I wanna cut the cord!!"

Yay for your mom! It's good to hear that you have someone reasonable in your corner.
