I met Stephanie Pearl-McPhee today

I went to her book tour in Portland. She was smart, funny, and completely engaging. Her talk wasn't what I expected - it was better.

She talked about how knitting affects us mentally and spiritually in a positive way.

I got my book signed and got 2 skeins of a very special Socks That Rock colorway called "Knitters Without Borders". One woman got there early and had a half done sock, it pooled so perfectly. It striped very nicely! I'm planning Monkeys with one skein.

It was a great night even if my back is really tense from all the driving!

Megan,
I was there too, but didn't see you (I am not sure I'd recognize you but I thought I might). I did not stick around to have my book personally signed because I was not sure what I'd even say to her. Surely, it would have come out something like "I like you. I mean, I really, really like you. I mean, I find your books and blog really funny." I am sure I would have sounded like a blathering idiot. So I figured attending the talk and buying the book with profits going to DWB would suffice. Her voice is so different from how I imagined she might sound, much huskier. There were so many people there. I'm glad you got to come up.

Wow! I am envious!
I wonder if you can find her talk somewhere online. I love when knitters connect the craft to spirituality.

When I had my book signed it was obvious she was on the verge of loosing her voice. She seemed really, really exhausted.

One time she commented on my knitting blog and I was totally just like that. In person it probably would have gone like ten times worse. I don't know why... I mean my husband was in a band for awhile and we got to meet some pretty big artists in the Christian music industry and I never acted like that. I've also gotten to interview some very cool people as a writer and was totally normal. But when it comes to yarn... I don't know.

I was starstruck when I met her, too. I posted on my blog about it, but didn't mention that I had sent her an email the next day explaining that I wasn't as much of a dork as I seemed.

Oh, I forgot to say -- we made it on her blog -- well, really Spencer made it & I got to hold him...

I saw her last year when my son was three weeks old. She even said those with babies could jump the line for signing but I figured I'd just blubber and bought a book already signed. I'm a dork. Maybe next tour.
