Do what with my sons urine ??!!??!

So my dear mother told me to place a small towel over my LO penis and when he pees to use that to get the milk off of his tongue ?? Has anyone ever heard of something so bizarre?

I've heard of using a snail to cure thrush, but never that.

Ones own urine is harmless to ones own self, if you are lost out at sea you could drink it to stay alive (at lest for a little bit of time), and you can clean your own wounds with it. It is other people urine that can be hurmful to us... though I never hured of what your mother told you.

Ask her if she pees on a rag and wipes her tongue with it later.

They said to wipe it to get the milk off. Why the milk needs to come off I have no idea?????

right...no reason to get that milk off...altho with thrush the white tounge would be that, not left over milk. but never heard of doing that with urine. i sure wouldn't!

you should seriously write a book with all the crazy advice you have gotten. between your mom and grandmother.... seriously i have to wonder sometimes if they're just screwing with you

oh, thrush does suck, though. have you been reading in the breastfeeding forums about all the ways to get rid of it? i think i posted some too in Alpaca's recent thread about it. the sooner you nip it in the bud, the better!

My DH's entire family encouraged us to remove the milk from his tongue. Even friends of their family commented on it. His cousin, a dentist, suggested the oral swabs that are used for oral hygine. We got them from the shop at our local hospital, but they are probably available at drug stores or any medical supply shop. The ones we bought have glycerin in them and are lemon flavored to stimulate the flow of saliva. You can also get ones that are little sponges on sticks - these have no glycerin or flavoring.

I objected strongly to using the swabs with glycerin or coloring, but it is better for dental health to keep the mouth clean. Keeps other things from growing...

Okay, my mom told my SIL to do this with my nephew when my sil was about to give up bfing due to thrush (she did end up switching to formula).
My SIL was both horrified and disgusted and my mom looked the fool.
I've never done this with my kids. I have had thrush with my last two and coconut oil and GSE seem to do the trick for me/us.

ewww. Urine.

have any of you guys heard of using newborn baby pee to wipe your face with? my great grandmother swore by it. she had AMAZING skin...

Hmmm, odd cure but I'm surre there's something to it.
We just had a peds appointment today and she said that the milk stain on babys tongue should be wiped off to prevent thrush because thrush grows on the sugars left behind by the milk that sits on the tongue.
She told us to use a mixture of 1tbsp baking soda to a cup of water and dip a gauze pad in the mixture and wipe the babys tongue with that.

...and vernix facials huh?
Who thinks of these things?
