Something besides Lansinoh for nipples?

Just wondering if there's any other oil or salve that works as well as Lansinoh. Maybe something that can be made at home?

I remember rubbing breastmilk on my nipples (someone had recommended it). It worked for me, though mine weren't particularly sore.

Earth Mama Angel Baby has a vegan nipple cream that's made of shea butter and cocoa butter and stuff like that. I've never used it, but I plan to try it.

That's what I was going to recommend. Though I only had to use it once, had a very easy and pain free start to nursing this time around. But I liked that it was vegan and it smells way better than Lansinoah.

Coconut oil worked for me, felt especially good straight out of the refrigerator.

Make sure whatever you try is foodgrade, else you've got the potential pain of having to wipe it off before nursing.

Someone here told me that if you've got latex allergy, shea butter is something to also be avoided.

Breastmilk worked for me, but the "wet healing" that was talked about in the Lansinoh literature didn't work for me at all. I needed my nipples to be dry between nursing sessions for them to finally heal. The nipple shells also worked wonders when they were really sore at first (made by Medela).

Breastmilk, definitely! Squeeze a little out after each nursing session, rub it on & let it air dry. You can actually see the shiny protective coat that it forms. (if you're particularly sore, Baby's latch could be a bit off, too....just somethng to think about).

Another vote for olive oil here.

I used a small sample of Motherlove nipple ointment that my childbirth educator and doula gave to me. A 4 mL sample size lasted me 3 weeks and it worked wonderfully (I tried breastmilk, but that didn't seem to help with the pain I was having). Then later I got the Motherlove Diaper Rash and Thrush ointment for DS. And at atbout the same time, I ended up with a milk blister (OUCH!), and I used that on my nipple and it really helped, too--I just had to be careful which finger I was using to apply the ointment to DS's bottom so that I wasn't getting any cross contamination from his diaper changes.

The motherlove is an olive oil base and is all organic. I'm trying to remember the ingredients... I know it has calendula in it.

I LOVED the Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple butter. Actually, I use it now on my lips or if I have a super dry part of skin and you can use it on baby's bum in a pinch. I'll probably buy another bottle if I ever run out of this one even though by that time I'll be long past my breastfeeding days.
