I started the Elimination Diet 3 days ago and my poor ds's eczema is worse this morning!! UGhhh so frustrating!! Am I going down the wrong path, does this mean it's more likely environmental. Or does the skin get worse releasing all the toxins before it can get better? I HATE ECZEMA, it's such a pain!!!

I guess it depends what you're eating. It could be one of the things he's sensitive to, and now that you're down to eating fewer foods, you're eating more of each one.

My friend asked me this same question two weeks ago when she started an ED. I asked her what she was eating more of and she said bananas (and she'd been feeding them directly to the baby on top of eating them herself). I mentioned that those are a high allergy food on some lists. So, she cut them out and her baby was improving the following day and ever since. So, I guess you'd want to look at what you're eating now, like Kathy said. Are you doing an elimination diet or a total elimination diet?

Yeah good point.
I've only eliminated top ones because I'm a vegetarian. I'm scared to do the TED because I already have low milk supply issues and need to keep up protein and calories

BUT, soy was my main protein and since I've cut it out I'm eating more beans,
so maybe it could be legumes? Not sure how to cut those out too cause where could I get protein? confused??

So I've been eating:

rice
rice cakes allergy free
rice noodles allergy free
hummus just beans and olive oil
pears
sweet potato
cauliflower
green beans
green squash
eggplant
rice milk

could he be allergic to rice?

It's so hard to say, especially with IgG type sensitivities/intolerances. But I will tell you that my DD has issues with green peas/beans and split peas (but not other types of beans curiously). And eggplant is a nightshade vegetable, and those are usually forbidden on an ED, so you might try taking that one out and see if that helps. I'm not sure if it's specifically allergenic, but the nightshades can aggravate inflammation in the body from my understanding.

Oh yeah- and my DD did get worse before better when she's clearing a 'bad' food. Usually took about 4 days before the symptoms would start to subside. I would say if you see no improvements in a week, then you need to stop the ED or switch the foods you're eating.

Just to be clear there is no such thing as an allergen free food. And yes it is quite possible to be allergic to rice.

That said, it often does get worse before it gets better.
