Any Bastyr University students or grads?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi mamas!

I'm on the quest for a midwifery program. I just completed LCCE (lamaze) and CD(DONA) (doula) training and am in the process of certifiying for both. After this I think its midwifery for me and Bastyr's program seems amazing! (especially since I'm contemplating Naturopathic Medicine as well.)

Anyone have any insight?

I'll admit it seems a bit overwhelming from here. But thats probably because I've been sitting at this computer all day researching programs : and theirs is by far the most involved. And because, though I now know this is my life work, I am still trying to get used to the idea of actually operating in the siences (something I swore to my MD father and RN mother i'd never do ).

I'd love to hear any experiences, feedback, encouragement, etc... especially from anyone familiar with the school...

I live about 5 miles away from the college, it is beautiful and we have a lot of quatlity alternative healthcare here, due to the graduating students!

Would you like to "speak" to some current students and grads

I live in Seattle, and have several colleagues who have graduated with LM/ND or are enrolled in the program now.

Let me know if you would find it helpful to speak/email with them.

Yes! Yes!

I would find that very helpful, thanks! Email would probably be most convenient, unless you know any of them to be on this board...

I live in Seattle and a good friend's sister is in the first year of the ND program. It sounds pretty intense, but that is just second hand experience.

I can't say enough about Bastyr though, from a personal perspective. I was seeing the NDs and Chinese Meds docs there to help me get pregnant with my second baby (due in 2 months). They were great!!

Seattle isn't shabby either ;-)

i did my undergrad degree at bastyr and am now in the ND program at NCNM in Portland (also doing midwifery). While I can't give you really specific information about Bastyr's midwifery program, I'd be happy to chat about the school in general and what it's like to be taking the naturopathic route to becoming a midwife. feel free to e-mail if you'd like. two seattle contacts from bastyr

Contact these folks, one currently enrolled in the LM/ND program and one who went through a while back and is now practicing.

You can reach them through their websites, and please tell them Sharon sent you!
