Travel spots for Tweens

I'm getting psyched to go traveling, I'm even signing up to all kinds of contests like that april 1800free411 plane ticket giveaway, what kinds of US destinations would you recommend?

I was thinking if at least we were in/near a small town where they could walk around or rent bikes and venture out on their own and be safe. Like Wrightsville Beach... or a lake community.

My dd likes beaches, so anything with a beach is a good place for her. She also likes roller coasters. She's ok w/shopping, but not too much of it, and same with museums/walking around town. She'd prefer to ride bikes, walk on beaches, play in the water, etc. I think since you know your kids, you'll find the perfect place.

I think it totally depends on the kid. I'd talk to them and see what they want to do.
