Which is best / safest? What do you use?

I currently have them in plastic. But I'm really trying to go plastic free.

I found some really sweet looking All-Clad SS ones at Williams Sonoma. But they are $120 ! for 3 canisters.

i use glass for almost all of my pantry dry goods. as far as safe do you mean for food storage or breakage? i think glass and ss are both completely inert and non-reactive or leeching, but i definitely have to watch my girls around the pantry so they don't try to "help" and break a heavy glass container of flour, sugar, etc....
$120 for 3 containers? ouch. i bought most of my really nice glass containers at thrift stores for less than $5 each.

hth....we are trying to go plastic free here too....

Safe as far as food storage goes, but also safety. With 3 boys who like to "help", I kind of need both. Maybe I will continue seeking out the stainless steel option....

But man these All Clad ones are so pretty!

I keep my flour in an antique metal milk can, and my sugar in an antique tin marked, um, SUGAR.

Everything else is in antique blue mason jars.

the antique metal stuff would worry me... lead? aluminum? who knows....?
i did find a couple of websites with stainless cannisters...

i really like this set by calphalon in fact, i think i am getting them! and at $60 you could get 2 sets and get free shipping for the price of the all clad ones!

Sweet, thanks for the link! They look really nice and the price is much better.

eta: I just found them on amazon.com. They have free shipping on (just) one set. If you are going to get them and haven't ordered them yet, TeaghansMama.

I have a set of stainless canisters that I bought on line that I love. But they do have plastic lids. I also store lots of stuff in plain old mason jars -- all our rice, beans, etc. They actually look really pretty in the pantry. I think they make 1/2 gallon and even gallon mason jars -- you would want a big one for flour.

Here are some half gallons -- I couldn't find gallons.
