Which pregnancy "rules" do you break? - Page 2

well I love coffee so I'm not giving that up, mostly decaf but certainly 2-3 cups of regular a week too.

I eat deli meat almost daily. I drink a coke almost daily. I guess that's it. Honestly I'm not eating very well right now either. Certainly not getting my veggies in. I can hardly bare to eat these days and for some reason if it isn't fried chicken, mashed taters and gravy I'm just not into it.

This is my 3rd and at this point all of the "rules" are out the window until I can get ahold of myself here in the next several weeks.

I've been so bad this time

I take hot baths (though I get out when I start "feeling the burn")
I drink tea (it helps me "go" ya know??)
I eat deli sandwiches (didn't know they were "bad")

I'm usually so very strict. Even though after my losses this one feels so "fragile" compared to the rest, why aren't I being even more strict???? I'm racked with guilt but I'm not so good at coping as I used to be so I fall back on these "little comforts". What can you do???

Coke here - every day at lunch! It makes my afternoons bearable. Sometimes I have icecream at night to calm acid-feeling. I ate tuna with #2 and probably will once I can stomach real food. Chocolate definitely once I'm feeling better!

It is funny how by the third time around the strict adherence to the rules goes out the window.

Well, I'm not sure if they're "rules" but I do continue coloring my hair during pregnancy (highlights though, so the dye is not actually sitting on my scalp) and I don't give up my mani/pedis either I do ask for the chair nearest the open door so I'm not breathing in fumes.

i have my mug of coffee every morning. my boss said something about it and i told her to back off and stay away from my coffee.
i've had: sushi (cooked), non-pasturized cheese, tuna, deli meat, and i'm sure a million other things. we have a vacation planned for july/august in europe. this will be our last big blowout before kids and i plan on enjoying every little bit of it. there is NO WAY i'm not eating cheese and drinking wine in france! i'm already ticked off enough about having to pass on the bouillabaisse because of the shellfish.

I have a breve every morning (it's like a latte but with full on half and half cream) and it's a triple shot system but I only drink it until Drippy (what my daughter named the babe so far) says stop. The espresso and the cream are organic for extra yum.

Oh yeah, I'm drinking unpasturized cows milk. Drippy says that's cool too.

I didn't even know deli meat was a bad for preg food!(other than how it's not fab in general...)Sheesh!I thought I knew stuff!

I've been a slacker. Now, I've noticed my bad behavior is finding a focus.French fries with fry sauce(mayo, ketchup mix): or sherbet ice cream. And an occasional Dr. pepper, but I've toned that down a lot.

I found out recently, that my youngest sister was almost named Pepper due to my mom's Dr.Pepper habit with her pregnancy!MY mother, who ground out wheat for bread, told us to chew wheat when we asked for gum!!!Drank Dr. Pepper!!!!! I am shocked!:The apple has not fallen far from the tree!

What's wrong w/ real sugar and ice cream? I mean, obviously, not to an extreme, but I think sugar has got to be a lot better than artificial sweeteners, no matter how "safe" they're supposed to be. And ice cream kept me alive last pregnancy - it was the only thing I could eat before bed that didn't give me heartburn/nausea and kept me satiated until morning!

So what other rules am I breaking? Caffeine, in moderation, for headaches and because sometimes darn it I want some! I ate feta cheese all the time last pregnancy (before the listeriosis / deli meats/soft cheeses prohibition existed). I don't eat meat, so the others aren't an issue, but if cheese is around I will eat it

I will probably go in the hot tub while we're on vacation, but I won't stay in too long (and since the danger is getting overheated, not really breaking a "rule").

Prenatal vitamins make me vomit, also. I can, however, chew my kids' gummi bear vitamins, so I'm using those. My midwife thought that was funny. I figure my pre-nausea diet was good enough that I wasn't likely to be at risk for low folate anyhow, and that's the main concern during the 1st trimester.

I do break some of my own "rules" during pregnancy. I'm mostly vegetarian, but chicken becomes incredibly appealing when I'm pregnant. I trust my body, and figure I must need the protein!

I feel the same way, but the thought of it is just nasty right now.
I did drink a small dr. pepper today with my Subway. I was famished and knew I'd be sick if I didn't eat something and it was so good. I don't usually drink soda though but once in a great while. I used to drink Dr. Pepper all the time when I was younger, but just don't care much now.

I eat cold lunch meat, take hot baths since I'm usually freezing, drink coffee (which my OB said was ok even though no one else thinks so), pet cats, dig in the garden with no gloves, and sleep on my stomach.
What's this digging in the garden with no gloves thing? I've never heard of that restriction.

This is my 3rd as well and basically I'm saying, "What? There are rules?"

Hot dogs, intense exercise, and a plate of scrambled eggs that I had to pick 2 mold spots off of. Hey, I was gonna puke if I didn't eat something pronto!

And that's not even counting a little caffeine and/or sugar, 'cause I don't think those are all that bad!

Toxoplasmosis, same as changing the cat's litter box (just in case neighborhood cats are using your garden as a litter box as well). But, after working in a veterinary clinic for over 20 years, I must say that your chances of getting toxoplasmosis from undercooked meat is MUCH higher than getting it from your cat.

We have a wonderful photo of my mom (colored hair and all) using her very pregnant belly containing me as a table for her whiskey sour. She SWEARS it was the ONLY drink she had while pregnant

Popping in from December to say... I have never craved brie until I read this thread. And now i'm dying for one of those brie wheels with the puff pastry around it, all golden and drippy... with crackers and grapes... argh.

I drink 1.5 cups of decaf coffee every morning with yucky creamer and sugar (to get things moving...), I eat my steak medium but don't send it back if it's medium rare, and I can only eat eggs over easy, dipping buttery toast in the wet yellows. I'm not big into feta or lunch meats or hot dogs, anyway.

I agree that America is a place where any risk, no matter how small, is no longer acceptable to most of the population. But those who are 13 weeks along and craving steak understand that some things are negotiable.

Mmmm, brie! I was reading in another thread that most all cheeses you can purchase in the US are pasteurized or safe? Either way, it's not something that worries me.

Besides brie and feta, I drink diet coke every day, eat Togo's (deli sandwiches) or hot dogs about once a week, take long hot showers now that they don't make me nauseous, and I love eating 'authentic' Caesar salads in North Beach in SF.

Now I'm hungry again.

Coffee every day. I switched to lattes for a while because drinking it black was making me queasy but, I'm back on the hard stuff now. And now that I'm through the first trimester and I can see the hot days of summer coming, there is a beer in my future. A sweet Sleeman's Honey Brown.

I love this thread. I am doing:

--A cup of tea in the morning (and if I get a crazy bad headache, I'll have another to try to fix it)
--Occasional deli meats/ hot dogs
--Soft cheese as long as it's pasteurized
--Ate a couple bowls of ice cream that contained raw egg yolks (don't know if they have to pasteurize those or not?) before I remembered that possibility and read the ingredients
--Chocolate chip cookie dough from the tube
--The occasional sip or two of DH's wine/beer. Once I'm farther along and for special occasions, I will have a small glass w/ food now and again. Did that last time, too.

It's hard enough for me to try to get in all my food groups and exercise while chasing a toddler and getting migraines, so I figure, if a hot dog makes my life easier one day, go for it!
